So I wanted at least a 1991 W126 MB but I have an opportunity to get a real nice 1987 420SEL for about 4000.00. The car has all the service records and only 123000 miles. The seats look new as does alot of the car. It is entirely original and has not been repainted ever.

The only problems with it are the paint on the hood is fading a bit and on the trunk, and the thing that really bothers me is the dash has some smal cracks in it. Im not sure how you could even fix that.

My dilemma is reallly if this car is worth trading the Hyundai for, its a 2000 Hyundai Elantra GLS with 53k miles. The car will eventually be my moms as the Hyundai was hers before. I have no doubt the Mercedes is a very reliable car so Im not too worried about that.

Heres a couple of pictures:

Looks like a nice car, nice color, but to honest, I think the styling is looking a bit dated. You don't want something a little newer? Just something to think about and consider...unless age and/or styling doesn't really matter....I would think it difficult coming from the newer BMW you had, going to this?

I think it might be worth the trade, but only if you would feel happy with the decision. Is there anything a little newer that you could pay a little more for with similar mileage? I liked the previous ones you showed a little better..

Most importantly, what does your Mom think? Would the cost of maintenance be too expensive in the future, etc. Overall I'm sure it would prove reliable and hopefully it was maintained well, etc.

At least you would be driving a car as old as mine, so I won't feel so bad. ;)

If its what you want, get it, but since the title of the thread is What would you do, i wouldnt touch it. These things are lovely cars, but will cost more to maintain over time.

And as Ralph pointed out the styling is dated

I thought you wanted a W140?

im surpised you havent paid a visit to ed morse ...

also note i can get you a close twin to my car , only with a northstar for 3500 ...new engine ..

as for the benz , i have to note that the car isnt sitting right , the tail is way to far up in the air ...hows it doing on rust ? id rather have the w140 or that S sized coupe from that generation , those were VERY pretty cars ...if your looking at those w126 looking things id hold out for the older cars that had the diesel fromt he late 70s to early 80s , those had classic lines and from ym background the engines were GREAT (we used them in the haglunds track vehicles)

My sisters is black, beige creamish leather. Real nice, 99 shes taken it to 38k miles now.

Its what got me thinking abuot another W140. I had a 320 SEL back in 94, im looking for a 98 or 99 S600 now.

A worthy replacement for Gladys :yup:

Hey its more common than you think, sometimes its the cheaper cars that excite more.

The reason i have a £1700 Eldorado, and a £2000 Vectra outside my house.

I could drive a £100,000 car f i really wanted, but theres no fun in that.....
