no from what i understand the prices have stopped rising. For two weeks now ive been paying the same 3.99-4.01 for 93 at my local shell as i had for the previous 3 weeks (still daily fluctuations)

of course, gas station owners are gonna leave the prices high for a bit, but we should start seeing a decrease soon

Back in the ancient past when Cadillacs still ruled the roads, I remember paying $.11 a gallon at he Post Exchange gas station in Japan. The year was 1970. I'll bet Sub and Dkoz can remember paying even less on base earlier in the 1960's!

Ofcourse, in 1970 a 2nd lieutenat in the Army's base pay was $4200. a year and a single sargeant made around $300. plus room and meals at the mess (if you wanted them). A Chivas Regal at the club was $.50 and a steak dinner was $1.50!

When I started driving (1988), regular was around 89 cents/gal. It's only gone up from there.

There was a time, in the early seventies and again in the early eighties, when the price of gas was measure d not just in dollars and cents, but in the time it took to seek out a gas station that had any gas and the time it took waiting in line to fill up (sometimes more than an hour in Los Angeles) ..... now that was expensive gas! Often you were also limited to ten gallons at a time. Fortunately I had a Jaguar XJ6 at the time with dual gas tanks, I would just run on one of the tanks which when it showed empty would get filled, meanwhile keeping the other tank full for emergencies!

So while the present price of gas does pinch the budget, at least we can get gas to carryout our necessary driving!

wasn't that back when they put a federal speed limit of like 55 mph on the roads ?

i remember my dad mentioning that to me a few times

and hes also said hes surprised that Ohio is raising there speed limits this year
he thinks with gas prices the way they are the gov should limit the speed limit again to 60 or below

The lowest I remember was 87 cents a gallon, I recall that was around the late 90's or early 2000's. I predict we will get that low again. :)

Yeah I can remember it being under $1.00 a gallon when I just got my license in 2000.

Does anybody else feel like the oil futures and other oil commodities markets are rigged? I swear there are people manipulating the market, lining their pockets. Then they blame the cost of oil going up on "terrorists" "chinese demand" or "unrest in the Middle east". That last one really pisses me off, there has been unrest in the middle east since the beginning of recorded history.
