What to do to program a new remote control for STS 1999

1851 Views 5 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  3000fr_Cadillac STS
Hello everyone
Need a little help ...
Indeed, I want to acquire a second remote control in case a failure of the original remote control occurs.
Applies to Cadillac Seville STS 1999
Remote: GM 25656447 | GM RFA

Regarding the programming of the remote control, which will certainly be empty / blank ...
my questions:
For reprogramming the remote control, just use TECH 2? (I own the GM TECH 2)
Or is it necessary to perform other manipulations ...
With buttons ... (I saw a video, but I didn't understand much)

Is it necessary? or Tech 2 is enough ...
if someone could describe the procedure to me point by point ... 1, 2, 3 ... etc Thanks

Thank you in advance ...

For reprogramming the remote control
you can NOT program a REMOTE -
you program the CAR to recognize the particular pattern of a particular REMOTE -

MATCHING the remotes with the car REQUIRES the use of the TECH2 scan tool -

you can MATCH 2 remotes to the car -
the FIRST remote MATCHED with the car becomes DRIVER1 -
the SECOND remote MATCHED with the car becomes DRIVER2 -
regardless of the number on the case of the fob -

you MUST have BOTH remotes present and MATCH both remotes during the same process -
as soon as you enter the the process - ALL previous remote codes are erased -

if someone could describe the procedure to me point by point
all you need to do is follow the prompts on the TECH2 screen -
pick the car - pick the task - YES - it is that simple -

Hi,
thank you for the answer and the information ...
So I can do everything with my Tech 2 .... But will it reprogram everything? even remote control 1?
Hope not to lose the main remote ...

Thank you for help :)

YES -
when you enter the mode for matching the remotes to the car -
BOTH original remote signals are erased from the car -
and the FIRST remote you match becomes DRIVER1
and the SECOND remote you match becomes DRIVER2 -

this means you COULD actually use TWO #1 remotes - or TWO #2 remotes -
and if you match a #2 remote FIRST it becomes DRIVER1
and if you match a #1 remote SECOND it becomes DRIVER2 -

the internal workings are the same -
the number on the back of the case is simply for your convenience -

Ok, I understand...
I will see where I can find this function in the Tech 2 ...
Because I have never seen her ... I hope quite simple :)
For now, I don't have the second remote, but I think I still have to find the place or do the programming in tech 2

Thank you
Editing:
I plugged in my Tech 2, but I can't find which menu to choose ...
Really not easy to find ...
I do not know if it is necessary to find remote ... or if it is under another name ...
An idea ?
Found the procedure in my Cadillac Workshop Manual
