I have swapped out the transfer case, I've swapped out the front differential. I don't know where the sound is coming from. 2002 escalate, repo truck that I believe was lifted and towed from the rear leaving the front wheels to roll or drag. None of the axles are spinning in the front, under load in drive I get this God-awful sound. Please somebody tell me what the hell it is?The transfer case and front differential are low mile and rebuilt. The sound has not changed at all since I picked the truck up before the swaps.

And for some reason I can't upload a video. It's a very loud clicking/banging sound. It only happens under load. Driving down the road when it's coasting, nothing.

I know it sounds like creaking, but it's actually popping banging sound. None of the U joints are spinning, none of my axles are spinning.
Tough to call from the video. I am lending towards a bad engine bearing since you swapped the front differential and transfer-case already.

How do the Caddy perform on the road?

After this thing sitting for a while I decided to get back on it to diagnose the issue. I'd like to pull the front driveshaft to diagnose where the sound is coming from before I dive into this thing myself. I was lucky enough to pick up a very low fresh rebuild 4L65E for a deal too good to pass up. If it turns out to be the transmission I will swap it out and be done with it. But I would like to know for sure. Any thoughts on it being an issue of pulling the front driveshaft out simply for diagnosis purposes? To narrow down the sound, I'd like to pull the front driveshaft and put it in gear and perhaps take it down the street. Any potential issues in this?

I've read the vehicle cannot be operated without the front driveshaft installed, but not sure exactly why. Truck may light up every light on the dash, but should still roll forward/backward.

Well in that case, my dash has beat it to the punch. It already looks like a Christmas tree. I've read it's badd for the front differential, bed for the transfer case, but no definitive reasoning behind it from what I've read. I do not plan on keeping the front driveshaft out. Purely to isolate the sound.

When I turn right or left going forward or backward, the noise sounds like it is coming from the back but I don't know.
Sounds like steering housing box or rear end or would both make a sound? Sounds like metal against metal at low and high speeds.

Still puzzled!
