What T-Stat for 94 FWB 180 or 160?

I am getting a new t-stat for my new 94 FWB. I think OEM is 180 so I planned on going with 180 but I wanted to get everyone elses opinion. What do you guys use? 180F or 160F? Thanks.

Some people change to the 160 just to keep things a little cooler, but honestly there's really no benefit to doing so, and you're more than fine just sticking with the OEM 180. That way you also don't need to have the PCM reprogrammed to compensate for the change.

Others will chime in, I'm sure, but just IMHO, it's not enough of worth it unless you're just into changing things for the heck of it, especially not on a stock car.
I put the 160 degree thermostat but got my PCM reprogrammed for the fans to come on earlier. That is the only way to benefit from the 160 tstat. Your car will run about 20 degrees cooler that way
probably a stupid question, but what's the benifit of running twenty degrees cooler?

Not much.
Furthermore, I believe the stock T-stat is 195 degrees, not 180. 195 degree is better for emissons and cold weather heater/defroster performance. However, changing to a 180 degree T-stat is fine, but the heater will be slightly less powerful in the winter months.

On the other hand, a 160 T-stat is way too cold and may cause problems with the computer, as well as poor cold weather heating.

Speaking from personal experience, haven't had any problems after 8,000 miles with my 160 degree thermostat. The car has great heat in the winter and no computer problems (you have to reprogram the PCM for the new thermostat).

Lowering the engine temps increases efficiency and performance because you have a less chance of knocking or pinging.

If your car is bone stock and you just use it as a daily driver, then there is no need to go with the 160 degree thermostat.
Thanks guys. The ones I found were 160, 180, and 192F. It said on both websites 180 was OEM. I think that is correct. 180 is OEM for the N* too.
OEM IS a 180, and that's what I'd stick with unless you just feel like changing things for the sake of changing things. Really, the 20 deg. difference doesn't do a whole lot, just gives some people a little extra piece of mind with their other mods--that they're keeping everything cooler.
