What kind of seal installer to use?

776 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  32vmonte
I have a 96 Eldorado and am in the process of replacing the crankshaft front seal. For the life of me, I could not force the new seal into the opening and have already messed one up for tapping it in too hard.
Is there a GM special tool or any thing I can improvise to force this seal in? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have a lathe so I made my own tool for it, but you can try finding something the same diameter and then tapping the seal into place. GM has some special tools that you have to have for the Northstars, but many of them can be easily bought or made.
Thanks. I have just been able to find something with the same diameter and used the balancer bolt to slowly press the seal in. I can't believe how easy it was to get it in place after many hours struggling iwithout the right improvised tool.
The same gm tool can be used for the rear seal too right?
