What is your go to level 2 home charger?

We have a charge point level 2 charger and I just picked up a grizzly e level 2 charger just a basic one got it for 135 bucks Canadian. I find we don't connect the charge point to our wifi or use any of the extra features it provides so that is why we opted for the basic level 2 charger for our second application.

We will use the charge point for the Lyriq and any future EV we purchase and the new one we will use onbthe wife's volt.

I got a ChargePoint Home Flex. I really like it. Here were a few of my top decision criteria and influences:
  • Able to charge at 48A (could have done 50A)
  • Core storage integrated with the unit (versus a separate cord hanger to clutter the wall)
  • Hidden hardwire installation (wires enter from the back)
  • ChargePoint network (I would need an app anyway, so having an app that also works for destination chargers was appealing)
  • Great subsidy from my power company (I think they discounted it like $200, IIRC)

That is awesome we also have a charge point account for charging around town we have quite a few charge point charge station at the malls around our city and at pharmacies and some hotels and restaurants. I wired it myself direct to panel super simple it is connected to a 2 pole 60Amp breaker the grizzly e will be connected to a 40 amp breaker as it will just charge the volt and it only charges at 12Amp max

I take issue with SOC's frozen cable test. He coils the cable tightly to exaggerate the effects of cable stiffness on handling (by his own admission) and it doesn't really reflect how it handles in the real world. If you mount your EVSE or its cable hook 5' or more above the ground, the entire 25' length can be stored with just 2 and a half coils. Even when very stiff, it's not very difficult to manage a loose coil like that.

#21 ·
I could have done it myself but I was concerned that if something came up with the car electronics and they wanted to point at the charger, having a system installed by a Master electrician and permitted by the city was my best defense.

Paranoid for sure, but also I sleep better not worrying about did I make an error somehow. With ChargePoint Home Flex hardwired with #6 wire and a 60 amp CB, I’m happy.

#24 · (Edited)
FWIW, I've got a Wallbox Pulsar Plus 48A and I've been happy with it so far. I'm not currently using its "smart" features but if/when I get a second charger, I plan to take advantage of its ability to share a single circuit between two chargers.

Correction: I guess I have been using its smart features, just not really keeping track. I just logged into my charger and see that I've spent a grand total of $20.51 to power my Chevy Bolt EUV for the last 5 weeks and I'm guessing about 800 miles.

Honestly the charge point is good but I would never pay full price for one. It works well enough but over priced for what it is same with the Tesla one for us up here in Canada. The Grizzly e one we got is in testing for us and will report back we just put it on a temporary post to connect it and we will run it for a few weeks and see how it goes

Another Grizzl-E for this Luddite!

It's built hell for stout, and I don't need the extra features or another app. There were no tax incentives or rebates on anything else. I find my Ford app is just fine and I assume the GM app will be the pretty much the same. I wanted reliability and durability above all else and this fits the bill. I'm wired for 50A/NEMA and it's all I need just having one EV.
