What is the "snowflake" button I see in my Catera?

I'm glad there is a forum for Catera owners as I am clueless. I bought a used Catera and did not get the book with it - I couldn't find anywhere online I could buy a book (cheap anyway) so I have a question - there is a button that looks like a snowflake in several spots in my Catera - what does it do?

use it when you are driving in snowy conditions
Specifically, you use it from a stop. The "Snow Mode" locks out 1st & 2nd gears and starts the car rolling in 3rd gear. This reduces the amount of torque reaching the rear wheels and hopefully prevents wheelspin. Once the car reaches 30 MPH the "Snow Mode" disengages and your transmission will have all 4 speeds to select.
