What fell off of my engine?!?

So I was under the hood last week topping off m oil (thank you NS) and I noticed this hole in the back behind my engine. It definitely looks like something broke off, and I have no clue what it is. I think it's effecting my heater. It only blows hot when I'm giving it some gas, and blows cold while idling. Please let me know what's missing, and what all it could be effecting. I attached some pics.

holy cow ..well at least the evap is clean put a cover plate on it
That would effect airflow from the HVAC system, but cold heat while idling is usually a sticking thermostat.
It's nothing major, that hole is actually a "service" port. Normally, that area was covered as part of the plastic that surrounds the blower motor, If you need to service the HVAC system, you cut that part out to access some screws.

If you do some searching of the Northstar engine bay, you'll see where it says "Cut Here for Service".

actually -
that was where the blower motor resistor used to be on the older models -
before the newer style with the speed controller built into the blower -

it does need to be covered up -
cut the plastic cover of a coffee can to fit over the hole -
a little silicone seal -
and a few self-tapping screws = fixed
That didn't just "fall off". As advised, make a cover for it.
Thanks everyone! Could I just get that piece off of another Caddy from a junkyard?
Sure.................or just fabricate one out of a piece of sheet metal, beer can, plastic or whatever you have lying around.
