Going to order up a valve cover gasket set for the '06 4.6L V8...smelling the odor of burnt oil when parking is getting old..been doing some searching hoping to find a general list of other things to do "while it's apart", and nothing finding anything. Google brought up several hits for the transverse engine cars, but nothing on the longitudinal cars. As usual, I'm sure it's been covered ad nauseam, but I've never been any good with the search functions built into these forums.

I would also do the timing cover gaskets which are easy to do if the cam covers are already off.
Here is a link to them on Rock auto - http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/cadillac,2006,sts,4.6l+v8,1432044,engine,timing+cover+gasket+/+set,5484

Remove the wire clips from your "camshaft adjuster magnets" to see if the connectors are full of oil (most likely are), these will start throwing codes at some point. I would replace them since you have easy access at this point.

If you haven't done the spark plugs recently then this is a good time to do them also, they have a nice rebate on them right now to. (AC Delco 41950 double platinum)

If you pull the magnets off be gentle as you can harm the VVT oil control valves. They are never in stock and are not cheap. You will also need some gasket sealer for them as they don't have gaskets.

There are very good written procedures on Alldatadiy.com

I know this is an old thread, but how long did this take you/how hard was it? I have a misfire, no code or CEL and I know at least a little oil is getting to a couple spark plugs.

Honestly...still haven't gotten around to it. Life happened, things changed, my Chevy truck has become the daily, and the Caddy barely gets driven anymore. Basically just enough to keep the battery charged, keep the fuel pump from seizing, and keep the fuel from going stale.

I hope to get to it some time this winter, but I'm not keeping my fingers crossed either.
