Hi everyone...
My apologies if this has been asked before, I did a search and came up with 100's of threads...so I'll just ask.
I know what "S"ts means & "D"ts, so what's the "C" in CTS stand for? Do I dare say "Catera"?

Cadillac Touring Sedan?
Catera Touring Sedan?

I have OEM parts on my CTS that say Catera on it. My thinking is that GM saw the Catera going nowhere. Rather than doing a complete redo and use a loser name they went to CTS. The new Trend with Cadillac is to go with letter anyway. STS, DLS and CTS.

When I swapped out the OEM grill for the V-grill I noticed the OEM was stamped "Catera."

Catera, that's what I thought. I liked the Catera, personally. I liked the small size of it and it seemed it could have helped "youthtify" Cadillac's image....oh wait, it was available as an automatic only. Glad Cadillac changed their stance on manual transmitions with the CTS.

The C in CTS does NOT stand for catera. It stand for nothing. It is simply a series.

Here is a site you guys may find handy.

http://money.cnn.com/2004/09/07/pf/autos/car_name_decoder/

Here is a quote for the CTS..

The C in CTS, Cadillac's entry-level model, has no particular meaning. (It's Cadillac's naming scheme and they get to decide what things stand for, so it doesn't stand for Catera, either.) The letters TS stand for "touring sedan." For the performance version of the CTS, the company added a V to create the CTS-V.

Here is yet another quote from another site..

Even the name is, as Cadillac admits, "a sea change" for one of America's luxury brands, because CTS isn't a word. Rather, CTS stands for Cadillac's new C-series touring sedan.

Regardless of what they may say, all I know is this...parts onmy CTS say Catera! Really doesn't matter what the "C" stands for anyway...it's just a name/designation...I don't think anyone is going to say "I drive a Catera Touring Sedan" or a "C- Series Touring Sedan"..we're gonna simply say "I drive a CTS...."

SORRY, but here are the designations
CTS = Catera Touring Sedan
STS = Seville Touring Sedan SLS = Seville Luxury Sedan
DTS = DeVille Touring Sedan
ETC = Eldorado Touring Coupe
Its all pretty straightforward
http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/Catera+Touring+Sedan+(Cadillac)
If you don’t need a car quite up to the standards of a real estate mogul, maybe you could make due with a standard DTS sedan. Formerly the DeVille, DTS follows the same naming scheme as the STS (Seville Touring Sedan), CTS (Catera Touring Sedan),
http://www.car-data.com/xpage.reviews/rp.template.asp?mfg=cadillac&model=dts&writer=cw
Cadillac will SAY that it isn't Catera, cause they want to point out that its NOT the same car (and we all agree) but that is a gimmic, its CLEARLY obvious what CTS STANDS for.

So what you are saying is that Cadillac who says the C in CTS does not stand for Catera is wrong?

It is common knowledge what STS, SLS and DTS stood for. Fact is GM says CTS does not stand for Catera Touring Sedan so to me that argues that it does not stand for that. I do see your point and there are arguements to be made that it does (stamped on the grille) but to me when they say it does not then thats what I would tend to follow.

PS, I am not really sure what that site you posted is all about but I can make it say anything..

Look CTS stands for Camaro Touring Sedan .. http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/Camaro Touring Sedan

You are right. I also dont understand why GM would say the C in CTS does not stand for Catera yet the grille is stamped with the word Catera. (I also noticed that on the stock grille when I installed my V grille) LOL :annoyed:

Ahh well.

I had some free time so I started to search the web and there are some interesting things out there and some conflicting info...
a company which formerly boasted distinct names like Eldorado, Fleetwood and Seville replaced the Catera with the CTS, while denying that the "C" stood for anything, and will be replacing the Seville later this year with the all-new STS. In spite of the fact that for the last 5-6 years, STS has been a style designation for "Seville Touring Sedan", appended to the Seville name, they want to be equally clear that "S" no longer stands for anything in the new name. Hence, next year, Cadillac buyers will select from among the CTS, STS, SRX, XLR, ESV, EXT -- and because they're in the wrong part of the model cycles still, the Escalade and DeVille. Personally, SC is saving his pennies for a CTS-V.
Cadillac is in the process of abandoning names like Catera, Seville and Deville for the supposedly sleeker CTS (derived from Catera Touring Sedan), STS (Seville Touring Sedan) and DTS (Deville Touring Sedan).
And so on. So basically the Catera maybe where they got the idea for the name CTS but GM does not want to call the CTS a catera. So if GM says CTS does not stand for Catera Touring sedan then it does not.. but they may want to stop doing things like stamping the word Catera on parts of the CTS. LOL

Hmmm, that is very interesting. Now that you mention it, I guess it makes total sense that CTS is derived from Catera.

No big deal...

I'm not going to lose any sleep over this...

Well, that takes all the mystery out of it... I am not sure if I like it.

How about:
CTS = Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

there are more here:
