So I probably should have posted asking about this before I bought, but what the heck, taking a chance. Here's the ebay ad of the car I just bought:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/161577181108

Picture also...

Thing that caught my eye was the bucket seats with center console... looks beautiful.

It has many new parts and after talking with the guy it, it also has newer tires (3 years old) and a replacement cruise control unit because that is the only thing that is not working on the car. It does have a bit of rust starting to show around the edge of the trunk, but I think I can fix that with some touch up paint to get more life out of the existing paint job.

Also received some pictures of the underside and it appears to be in decent shape... not as good as new, but no major rust or signs that areas have been replaced, so I think the underside is good. The engine is largely untouched, but the top of the carb air filter is showing a bit of rust, so I assume that's all original and needs some fresh paint to look nice again.

AC, heater, power seats, top, windows... everything works according to him.

I did not pay the asking price, I negotiated it down, but hit the buy now button to lock in the purchase, so ignore that price.

Before I say how much I paid, wanted to get your opinion as to what you guys think it's worth?

Looks very nice the price would be contingent on the actual rust situation. What id the upholstery like. Is it real leather facings or has it been redone with vinyl?
I believe the rust situation isn't very bad based on the additional pictures, but that's why I'm going to pick it up vs having it shipped. I want to see it before I fork over all the cash.

As for the seats, I'm sure the back seats are the original leather, you can tell from the pictures and how they are showing wear. The front seats... not sure, those might have been redone at some point with vinyl... personally I don't care if it's leather or vinyl, I think it's very hard to tell the difference these days between the two.

Re: What do you think of this 68 purchase?

A car that cost that much shouldn't have any rust.
Agreed, that's why I didn't pay that much. I don't think I got an amazing deal on the price, but I also don't feel I have overpaid, but we'll see. Might show up to get the car and find major issues with it.

Re: What do you think of this 68 purchase?

I agree zero rust and perfect condition for anywhere near that price. Hope ypu didn't just buy a money pit sight unseen.
Paying 13k for the car. Right now I just expect to find the small bits of rust on the back trunk. If it's more than that, then I would be concerned as well based on the price. I think I paid the average price for the condition, but who knows, we'll see.

Re: What do you think of this 68 purchase?

Theres a 69 convertible st.louis craigs list with 43000 miles looks fair condition hes asking 10500.
I really like the stacked headlights of the 68 though.. and before 68 had the smaller engine because Cadillac was running late with their new engine and missed the 67 year. If they had made the 67 year, a 67 would be my preference as I like the internal door handles on them much more. Anyway... due to my picky preferences, 68 is where I always seem to land.

Just found that one you are referring to. It doesn't appear to be nearly as nice of condition in my opinion, and more than that, the color combo just doesn't do it for me. At least it's not the dodoo brown color throughout... that dark brown color has to be the worst of them all.

Gorgeous car, but with any rust, undercarriage, surface.....I mean any, it's an $8K car all day.

Own it, drive it, and love it, but I know you paid more than $8K, so don't ever consider it an investment, at least not without serious investment.

Also, forget the touchup paint. If you're going to address the rust, do it completely and correctly now. Don't mask it, it'll only cost more and be a bigger pain in the ass later bud.

Hard to tell how much it's worth from those few pictures on ebay. For $13 I'd expect it to need a bit of minor stuff but look pretty perfect.

Beautiful car.
Great looking 1968 ! I just bought my '68 convertible 6 weeks ago. I'm still working on some technical things to get it road ready:).

I really like your buckets :)
Thanks guys! I'll be posting more pictures once I get it home, although they wont be sunny pictures, they will likely have snow/ice in the background. Think it's only 12 degrees here today.

I have never seen one in at least this good of shape for 8K. I might be able to find one for 11 or 12 if I wait, but never have I seen one for 8K unless it had a little more than a few issues. Sometimes you can find a cheaper price if you are willing to settle for an ugly color with the interior, but a bad interior color is what I consider to be a major issue because it's a lot of work to "fix" that.
