We are looking at buying a 2004 SRX and noticed that the 'standard' towing cap. is only 1000lbs but is 3500 lbs with the "towing package". It looks like the towing package cost $250. What does cadillac put on the SRX for $250 that increases the towing cap. to 3500lbs? (and/or why is the 'standard' tow cap. only 1000lbs)

Thanks,
Sean

Thanks.
So it sounds like I can add the towing package to a used 2004 if I buy one without the package. How much did it cost you? (I tried emailing you directly but the website won't let me for some reason)
I'm going to be towing 2 jetskis which I think weigh about 1500lbs with trailers and gear. I was trying to figure out if I can get away without the towing package.

I had the factory towing package added to my 2004. It had a special hitch that fit around the spare, wiring, and an extra transmission cooler.
The tow package does not include the hitch.

I think hitch prices start at $150. for aftermarket and $300. for OEM. OEM is 1 1/4" class II and aftermarket is a 2" class III recievier. Do a search and you can see some photos.

If you are going to tow over a thousand pounds, the transmission cooler, added fan are a no brainer for the small cost of the option. The better looking hitch is made by Hidden Hitch. You can pick them up for around 125. Do a web search, many sources. DrawTite is ok, but not as good looking. I pull a large motorcycle trailer all over the country.
Why put the extra strain on the car? As options go its cheap as hell.

Mine didn't have the tow package (05 V8 RWD). I added the class III hidden hitch, trailer wiring, and accesories (chrome ball and bar with locking pin) myself for less than $250.

I went to the dealer to see if they'd install an auxillairy transmission cooler, and they said it would void the warrantee. I plan on installing one, but not until the warrantee expires. I only use my hitch for a small utility trailer, which is less than 2000 lbs with my harley deuce on it, so I think it will be Okay for now.

I do have a couple of additional trailer hitch questions...

Q: How much power loss do you think there is between the belt run fan used with the Towing package and the electric fan(s) on the non-towing version?

Q: How do you turn off the backup warning when trailering? Whenever I backup the trailer the thing beeps the whole time, as it senses the trailer and hitch. I'd like to be able to turn it off.

Thanks.

If possible can you post a picture?? I think someone else did in the past but the pic they took was low to the ground. Maybe standing 10 feet back would show off the hitch better. This would be greatly appreicated!!!

Checked today and Drawtite has a hitch identical to the HiddenHitch. I think they call it the sporthitch, both for 155. Where did you see it for 125?? Thanks
