This new Lettering shit really annoys me. Just give the car a good name. Seville is a nice name. STS is Seville Touring Sedan. The thing that threw everyone off was that they didnt even Call the CTS any kind of name before they adding the touring sedan to it. C I hear also stands for the Body type.

could be.

Aren't both the CTS and STS based on the same sigma platform? I am completely off.

A better question would be what do XLR, SRX, ESV, and EXT stand for?

ESV = Excursion Sized Vehicle?
EXT = Escalade Cross Truck?

SRX and XLR, I dont have a clue.

I remember reading back in the early mid 90's that Cadillac was looking to change the way people talked about their cars to help change their image. If you notice owners of BMW and Merc don't usually say I have a 330i or an SL whatever, they say "I have a BMW". Cadillac wanted to have people use their name so by making them 3 letters that don't really mean anything to the general public, Cadillac buyers will have to say, I drive a Cadillac.

The title says it all. I guessed STS means Sport Touring Sedan and that CTS means Compact Touring Sedan. Am I a good guesser?
(necro-thread alert 🚨📢 )

I read once that "TS" = "touring sedan" with:
"D" for "Deluxe"
"S" for "Sport"
"C" for "Compact"

But I see several posts here saying that the first letter stood for former model names, so it could be that as well. I don't know what CT4 /5 /6 is supposed to mean. Just some more of the stupid needless changes made by Johan. Thank gawd they finally fired him.

Seville died in the end of 2003, Deville died in the end of 2005.
Note that the "model year" runs from about July to June, so a new 2020 XYZ4-V could have been built from July 2019 to June 2020.

STS stood for Seville Touring Sedan
SLS stood for Seville Luxury Sedan
DTS stood for Deville Touring Sedan
DHS stood for Deville High (luxury) Sedan (some say it was Deville Highway Sedan)
The 2006 - 2011 "STS" and the post 2005 "DTS" are not acronyms, they are totally new models, and the letters do not stand for a model name - they're early GM alphabet soup that means nothing.
Some of the first 2003 CTS had polymeric bumper parts that were molded with "Catera Touring Sedan" part numbers, but that went away in a hurry and the "name" stayed "CTS".
Anything after 2006 or so in the Cadillac line is EUROLAC alphanumeric gibberish and carries no defining meaniing.
