Technically

STS = S-Series Touring Sedan
CTS = C-Series Touring Sedan
DTS = D-series Touring Sedan
XLR = X-Series Luxury Roadster
SRX = S-Series Reconfigurable Crossover

Historically STS did stand for Seville Touring Sedan and the original CTS actually had "Catera" Stamped on certain parts. But the above is what is most typically quoted by Cadillac now.

In an attempt to protest the use of seemingly random capital letters, I got a base Escalade. It was too confusing when I had our SLS (Seville Luxury Sedan) and our SRX (uhh...Sport.....uhhh Recreational....Crossover). :D

Note: Brett is probably correct above, but I like mine better.

I personally hate that Cadillac has gone to the series of letters rather than names. Everyone knows what a Seville, Eldorado and Deville is, but I often have to explain what an STS is although I think it is probably the best known of the letter codes simply because it has been around the longest. I guess they did it to make a clean break from the past and appear more sporty, and it is definitely workng for them, but that doesn't stop me from missing the old names.

Alas, you STS and DTS owners can continue to call your car a DeVille or Seville and everyone will know what your are talking about. However, CTS owners are stuck with a checkered name lineage of Catera and Cimarron. The XLR should have brought back the Allante name. With a SRX, what do I have? Was there ever a Cadillac station wagon?

I have a friend that has an older model ('70s?) DeVille station wagon that was one a 2 or 3 made for a car show. It is NOT a converted hearse. There are a million of those around. It's pretty ragged, but it is stored inside. Maybe I can get a picture of it to post later.
