But I bought a Lincoln. :hmm:
Yep, I was flipping through Craigslist tonight and came across this, a 1988 Mark VII LSC. Its got 107k miles and he wanted $1700 for it. I went to have a look, and its in rather good condition. No rust anywhere, there is just a little bubbling on the leading edge of the trunk. I paid $1500.
I talked to the guy for a while to find out its history. He has owned the car for the past 15 years and has taken pretty good care of it. The suspension was completely replaced a few years ago, both the bags and compressor. It has newer Michelin Hydroedge tires on it and the A/C has been converted to R-134 and is in working order.
It has a few minor issues. The radio does not play actual radio, but the tape player works flawlessly. Que the mp3 tape adapter and I'm good to go. The cruise does not work, but I don't really need that for my around town daily driver. The driver seat was torn but he put a cover on it, so there is no perforated leather for me bum.
There is a short in the dash so the tach and the fuel gauge are inoperative when the headlights are on, no big issue there either. The power steering pump may also be on its way out, but that I can replace myself with relative ease. He even included all the factory service manuals for the car. Its mostly just little things that I will simply deal with and not waste time trying to fix. Nothing a little TLC can't solve. As I said, this is just an around town daily driver to keep me from putting miles on the Brougham while I wait for my grandparents to sell their Infiniti. I should be able to sell the car for what I paid.
Now the fun part, performance. Yes. It is not blazing fast, but its got some definite go under the hood. It handles like you wouldn't friggin believe. On the way home there was a time when there were no other cars within a half mile of me on the highway so I decided to do some rapid lane changes at 65mph. It was fun. The ride is also superb, easily on par with my old '95 DeVille. This thing soaks up the bumps perfectly but you can whip it around a corner if you wanted to. Interior noise is so so but not unbearable. The owner also had Mustang GT mufflers installed recently so it has a very nice grumble to it when you get on the throttle.
The interior is nice, a little snug, but I am tall so its hard to find one I fit nicely in. There are so many buttons, I am in heaven. :cloud9: The seats are extremely comfortable and even has leg supports that are power adjustable.
That's all for tonight, more pictures to come tomorrow in the daylight, hopefully.
