Ok people i brought a 94 deville sedan member so me and my father got it home from the auction and put a new battery and turned the key next thing you know it said hug hug hug hug then started smoking (motor tried to turn over) so i took it to a mechanic and he put it on a lift and tried turnng the pulley on the side of the motor then when it wouldnt turn he said sir your motor is blown my heart dropped 17 yrs old and spent my last little bit of money on a messed up car so after that i took my father cadilac escalade to get serviced at the caddy dealer and while he was changing the escalade oil i tol him my problem then he sadi oh that happen plenty of times then he said if your motor tried to turn over its not seized then he said " did the mechcanic try to turn the pulley then he said they are dickhead you cant do that because the tranny is keeping the motor from turning plus it was in park so he said its inpossible to turn while its in park. so he said the starter is dead also and it still might be engaged in the motor so he told me to take the starter off the motor( ogod so much jsut to take the starter out) and take the trannsmission off Then try turning that pulley and ifs it turn Hay rayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

so please tell me if this is true or not i need a second opinion before i do this

Id like some more details.....

So you drove it home, and then put a new battery in it, and then it started smoking.......?? If it tried, it sounds like a bad starter, and it could be it kicking the bucket..... Where did the smoke come from..... Under the hood or from the exhaust....? If the engine ran, and tired to turn over, its not seized.....

I wouldnt see why you couldnt hand crank the engine.... If all else fails, put it in neutral and try it that way..... I dont think that they would design car that would REQUIRE you to remove the tranny to do hand crank it.... besides, how would it start with a starter without having the tranny unhooked...... If you think about it, it acutally doesnt make any sense... You start it in park, so whats the difference of hand cranking!!!!!

Id replace the starter, and see where you can go from there......

Not good news here. You can hand crank the engine w/ the trans in park. I do it all the time. If you cant turn it, make sure nothing outside the engine as in starter or such is causing the binding. Make sure the trans is indeed in park or nuetral, maybe the gear shift indicator is off. These are long shots though, but better tried than jumping into a teardown if not needed

If you can't hand crank your engine or it wont turn when you engage the starter, your A/C compressor could be frozen. To check you can Disconnect it by removing the serpentine belt,Its the belt that drives all your accesories ie.. A/C,power steering etc..Its easy just untension the idler pulley with a breaker bar and slip the belt where its easy to access then you can remove the belt.If the problem is the A/C compressor then your car should start. Good luck.

None of the belted acc. will stop this engine from turning over, just tear up the serp. belt
