have a 94 deville with 144,xxx miles on it. i was wondering if i should replace the water pump? to my knowledge, nothing is wrong with it. but with winter bearing down, i think id feel better about having a new water pump. is it stupid to replace it without it being bad?

im also going to replace the thermostat and hoses while im at it.

any opinions about replacing a good water pump?

I'm not one to replace things until I know they are ready. Of course, with the mileage you have I wouldn't call it foolish at this point. However, if it is still solid, no noise, no wiggle you could just drain the coolant and replenish with fresh and should be OK till the bearing or seal does go out.

Really, it's your call. Be sure to add the GM pellets when you do the job.
Water pumps don't know what season it is. With some of the poor quality of replacement parts you could wind up with a pump that has less future life than your current pump. It's always a good idea to replace the thermostat whenever the coolant gets drained though. I'd leave Mr. pump alone unless you are planning to drive to the moon.
Hello, the water pump started leaking in my '93 Deville @ 106K miles. I was told by a very trusted and respected mechanic that after about 100K, the bearing in the water pump starts to wear out may start to leak. This is exactly what my '93 Deville did. He also told me that he recommended that I buy a new one instead of I remanufactured one. This is because the re-mans usually don't last as long as new ones. Of course this is after I bought a re-man!! But my '90 Deville has 225,500 miles on her and to my knowledge it has never been changed. Hope you can use this info and I personally wouldn't change it if it isn't leaking. Take care and keep on Cadillacin', troy.
