Do you recommend ac delco or just any water pump?

This is interesting, in the 2001 deville it has this valve at the front of the motor but in the 2004 its completely gone

I wouldn't worry about it - there are LOTS of differences between a 2001 and 2004 Deville -

regarding the water pump -
there are TWO different ACDelco pumps available -

the ACDelco "gold professional" replacement part - ACDELCO 252-707 - $43 - with free shipping -

and the actual OEM part - ACDELCO 251-660 - $54 - with free shipping -

personally - I'd spend the extra $11 and get the OEM part -

On "AC Delco" packaged and branded pumps. There were two in my garage until last year when they went into two neighbor's SLS and ESC.
If they were still here I would be more than happy to post a pic of the stickers on the pulleys.

Nothing wrong with foreign-made parts - they're supposed to be built to contract specs and inspected for faults before packaging. You would be surprised at how little of your DHS was actually made (not assembled) in the U.S. The fun part is getting it all to arrive at the correct place at the exact second of the right day on the assembly line for it to be built into a particular car.

EDIT: Your spark plugs are/were DENSO or NGK, AC Delco branded, made in Japan. Fuel injection parts were Robert Bosch, Germany. The PCM is probably Siemens, Mexico. Much trim plastic and glass is Canada. Wiring harnesses are Mexico, Canada, Malaysia. CKPs and CMP were Siemens, Mexico and the replacements are DENSO, Japan....... and so on.

Whaever hose comes off the hanger at the parts store - it will usually be AC Delco, STANT, DAYCO, or Gates. All the same.

NO SEALANT.

The service manuals and radiator sight shield were never updated when GM/Cadillac discontinued the use of the coolant supplement (sealant) tablets in 2006. That was done by a GM TSB and the ONLY way an owner would know was through a conscientious dealer service rep.

Google "gm cadillac coolant supplement sealant tablet tsb"

The water pump main O-ring is supposed to be lubed with raw coolant before locking in the pump counterclockwise to 73 lb/ft. Align the small lock tab correctly before rotating the assembly.

Some "tips" say to strecth the o-ring before putting it on, it will go on eaier and them mold into shape, do you do that?

Also autozone has the wrench socket for teh water pump and it says for caddy, the oroily auto store says they have one but it just says for GM cars does not mention caddy, will teh oriolly one work?

Just use ACDelco parts. Even if it's a reman go with it. I cannot tell you how many parts including water pumps and AC compressors and alternators I have replaced TWICE on everything from my Cadillac to my volkswagens because the shop wanted to use some generic Chinese crap from whatever Parts Source / Worldpac whoever that lasted somewhere between 100 and 4,000 miles. The shops do it because they're counting on the up charge for the quote unquote 2-year warranty not coming back to bite them. You can find ACDelco Parts if you search around. Even if AutoZone or whoever doesn't have them, look on amazon. I got an AC Delco alternator for my Allante recently for a great price and then I bought the Allstate warranty for 23 bucks just because. I will no longer skimp on parts assuming the generic or Chinese is as good as oem. It's not worth the time money or hassle.

Thats what i will do. However the ac-delco water pump was made in Mexico so i sometimes wonder if all these parts are made overseas and they just put a different brand name to them. As far as allstate warrenty they dont kick in till after manufacturer warranty, 1, 2 3 years down the road? i just hate paying for warrenty i cant use for several year(s). Plus if you use manufueer warrenty and get refund then you have to cancel your allstate warrenty and recieve prorated refund but under notmal circumstances where a part lasrs 3 or 4 years and you want a replacement im sure its a good warrenty.

It's a crapshoot. I'm in a unique parts/service quality judgement position because I recently worked part-time at the service/parts counter at our local Western (Tire &) Auto for 5 years for something to do. Prior to that, on and off between careers since 1954, I've been a parts runner, mechanic, chauffeur, used car flipper, other stuff. I recently sold my lucrative marine engine rebuild and modification business - a good deal since Kent Island is ............... surrounded by water :giggle: ............ and is home to huge commercial and pleasure boat fleets.

I personally have used a mishmash of "new" and "reman" parts in everything from MG-TD 1.25L 4 cylinder engines to full drag Olds 455s and GM 454s. There are wonderful and not-so-wonderful reman shops for everything from alternators to water pumps to radiators to entire engines. In or close to "the business" you learn in a hurry.

New Northstar part - Remy alternator. Reman? From any of over 6 local electric shops - NOT from a chain box store; those are rebuilt to a bulk contract price. Matter of fact, you can do a total alternator rebuild right in your own garage or on the kitchen table, using parts from Rock Auto or a local NAPA shop. And you learn a lot in the process.

9 of the 30+workboats in this picture run my engines............ some are out crabbing right now ........

I am NOT really a "Caddy guy". The STS was the end result in a lucky search at the same time I was looking at Taurus SHOs and a righteous 2001 Ferrari 550 Maranello. Previously the only Cadillac I rode in/drove was Mom's 1949 Series 62 black on red coupe. I do not own, drive, maintain the car because it is a "Cadillac". The marque means nothing to me - the car does.

Never owned a Deville - flipped a couple. BUT if I found a 2004/5 DTS creampuff the temptation might be great - like every other used vehicle on the planet - when they're good they're wonderful; when they're bad they're a true stinkin' bitch.

EDIT: My first 4 cars were a 1952 Morris Minor drophead coupe, a 1953 MG-TD, a 1954 Austin Healey 100-4, and a 1957 Jaguar XK140-MC. My first American car was a 1961 Corvair 4-speed - so early experience and part-time employment was primarily with "foreign cars".
