Anyone have thoughts on whetehr water dripping from muffler after shutting down is a symptom of significant problem, minor annoyance or normal? Water is clear evaporates readily, no traces of coolant or oils.

Thanks for the reply. I normally take very short trips-perhaps too short to evaporate out condensation. Also live in Fla. and of course have very high humidity. I will watch to see if the water problem goes away after longer trips. Asked the service Rep but he didn't seemed too concerned and said some water dripping is normal. I will have it checked out at next oil change. Otherwise car seems to be running fine.

The products of normal combustion are carbon dioxide and water. The water vapor in the exhaust condenses in the exhaust system until it warms up and vaporizes again. In cold weather you can see a steady drip coming from the exhaust of the car ahead of you.

The condensation is the reason I tell Cyn to take the long way home from the mall. 8 miles through town with 18 traffic signals and 17 miles via the by-pass with only 4 traffic signals. Money well spent to get to operating temperature, save the brakes, and probably about balance out on the mpg.
