So I'm out of the GM Bumper to Bumper on the used SRX I just bought. My local dealer is offering a GMPP through Ally. I know this has been asked before..., but just wondering what you all thought? I am NOT eligible to buy one online from another dealer. Since I'm out of the bumper to bumper, these are my only options. I have no experience with Cadillac repairs, or Ally's credibility, so I'm lost.

My car: 2011 Cadillac SRX Premium AWD w/ Turbo. 41,500 miles.

The offers (all $50 deductible):

36 month/36,000 miles for $2,700
48 months/40,000 miles for $3,511
48 months/48,000 miles for $3,756

Yes or no?

You're right, it has been asked before. There are a lot of variables involved, like how much work can you do for yourself? How comfortable are you with taking a gamble. What can and can't you afford. Will it bother you to pay in advance for repairs you may never use?

Take the money you WOULD spend on an extended warranty and stick it in a savings account, or if you're really bold, commodities. That way it will be there when you need it, and maybe with a little more.

Aftermarket "warranties" exist to make money for someone - and that someone is not you.

Put away the same monthly payment - or lump sum - that you would make and self-insure yourself.

Just as in a casino, the odds are against you EVER recovering your paid $$$$. Of course, "insurance" is a sort of safety blanket - if you can get around the fine print.

There is always a crossover point of worth and return. It depends on if you're talking new or used...

This is my 3rd extended warranty. And it's been hit and miss for it paying off. The first I had gotten my return on it. The second nothing, and this one has already paid out $2700.00. I would not own a Caddy without one, but that's just me.

Sometimes you win sometimes you lose.

The first extended warranty I bought was a waste, $2,400 and all that ever broke during the 4 year extended period was a $200 sensor. Infiniti sure did build the 1995 Q45t to a high standard.

I put one on a 2005 CTS-V and it paid off like a hot Slot machine! I wouldn't think twice about dropping one on an SRX.

I have one on my wife's '10 T&C, I expect it to pay and pay and pay, that is if the bumper to bumper was any indication of things to come.

I'm debating putting one on my current car, it seems pretty bulletproof. I might just roll the dice on it.

My FIL has a Chrysler van purchased new and he has more than got his money back from warranty, slide doors keep breaking and part is $300 a pop. AC fixes I bet have saved him thousands with warranty. He'll dump it when warranty is out. Don't blame him with repair costs these days.

Just got my 2008 SRX.. called Delta Auto Protection, A+ rated in the top 3 Extended Service Plans.. got their top of the line Diamond Premier, $0.00 deductible and they tossed in Tire and Rim coverage, 60 months and 100,000 miles.. you do have to wait 30 days and 1000 miles for it to activate so my warranty goes until May 2020 or 179000 miles

$2000 if paid in one lump sum. just a thought.. Endurance and Wanted are supposed to be good also but they wanted $3000 for the same thing.
