I was shocked to see this on eBay, well sort of now that I think about it. But still, the seller wants to sell this "MINT" product with the worst picture that I've seen. At least the picture is in focus and it's not being moved, as if it was too dark and moved the camera too soon.

Nevertheless, that price is still too much for that product.

I've seen a LOT of dirty, dusty, beat up stereo gear over the years, but that piece takes the cake. Not worth even the UPS shipping charge. Besides - the thing sounded horrible and had zero power headroom - and it got lousy reviews quite a few years ago.

This makes me think of the Craigslist ads I see here in the south (though I'd imagine it's just as bad everywhere.) I understand the occasional misspelling or grammatical error, but when you post something that is both vague and unreadable, how do you expect to sell something?

"i have a car for sell its my daley driver its a 1987 mitsibichi mirage it runs real "good" and the tires are pretty new not brand new but you no they got most of there tread on them I askin 2000 but i might take offers or trade 4 a boat or sumthing just call and ask"

OR how about this one, actually based on a real ad?

"Puppies for Sell (because it's never SALE, it's ALWAYS sell) -
Rock waller puppies for sale, born december 7, 200 each"

It was supposed to be ROTTWEILERS, and this was a real ad I saw with my own eyes. People disappoint me so much. :bigroll:

Wow that is a bad pic, not the worst but for the money the pics better be very good. I avoid lazy ass people that auction stuff this way taking no pride. My luck it would get shipped in a decades old water damaged box with 2 old tube socks and half an old melon for packing with address in crayons... not that I've ever had that experience...

That is a beauty. I've always liked the looks of McIntosh gear but never owned any. I had Audio Research M100 monoblocks and an sp11 pre back when I was into high-end audio but got tired of tube replacement.
The cool thing about tech today is those tube sounds can be generated using all kinds of plug ins.

Hard core analogue guys like the real ones but I challenge them to differentiate between the two during a blind test =)

It's crazy that all the gear that filled the studios when the Beatles and stones recorded is all now the size of a phone and can fit in our pockets

I agree about pretentious so-called experts. I actually did a blind test with some art aficionados. Blindfolded they couldn't tell my paintings from Picasso's.

You should have kept them. Worth a king's ransom now. I use modern tube gear - VAC and Cary(AES) - and went through a ton of conrad-johnson gear also. Even my CD player uses a tube output stage. Vacuum tubes are still made in the U.S., Russia, China, Japan and Czechoslovakia - all excellent tubes.

Even at 75 I can still tell differences between solid state and tube audio amplifiers and preamplifiers. Been in the hobby since 6 years old. Have over 2,000 LPs. Currently using a pair of MartinLogan VISTA electrostatic speakers. You've never heard Dark Side of The Moon so well .............. :sneaky:

I love audio geeks. I don't have time/space/money for, well, pretty much any hobbies other than Daily Driving and Eating Regularly. They are rewarding hobbies, but not much of a break from daily living. :)

Audio geeks, though, are awesome because they're always willing to share! Okay, they may not give you a bunch of equipment, but they'll invite you over just to listen to great music in an awesome setting (they generally have some decent bourbon too.) And I personally love the sound of a good-condition record playing through massive, heavy-magnet speakers. You can tell I'm not in the hobby because the terminology I use is pretty whack. Anyways, I love that warm sound from the records, sometimes the occasional fuzz or pop. It sounds like when I grew up - everything sounded that way. I miss my friends back home with hundreds of records and all the old tube equipment.

MartinLogan VISTA driven from 250 Hz up by the VAC tube amp, NHT 12" woofers in my cabinets driven by a big Fosgate amp from 250 Hz down. Marchand crossover. 475 watts/channel.

I just matched up a new set of output tubes - KT88 - using a 1956 Hickok 539B and external meters. Got 9 tube testers ..........

Geek ? heh, heh. We installed a new Lyra KLEOS moving coil phono cartridge last month. Google it.

I spend a lot of time looking for motorcycle projects on Craigslist and have come so close to emailing people about their ads JUST to tell them how bad they are. The more images the better is rule number one and the more details you include about the item, the higher your chances of selling it get. A lazy seller is a poor seller.

On a side note that classic looking HiFi equipment takes me back to my younger years. My father was a musician and had some really great pieces. In high school I threw a party for 7 days once and at the time a friend was staying with my family and I. During that party someone got shot with a BB gun and my buddy got his jaw broke all for touching my dad's stereo. It was really nice gear...

Sorry for the saturation - stereo audio, vinyl, and tube gear is a passion - my workbench currently looks like something out of an old 30s black and white horror movie - a la' Bela Lugosi.

Here's the tube tester - I have 9 of the things from the 40s and 50s and 3 different manufacturers. They're pretty rare nowadays, particularly in this condition .................... Hundreds upon hundreds of internal soldered connections, all hand-wired. 28 pounds !

While complaining about seller's ads, I have to say, I hope there is a special corner in Hell for the ones who list a hundred car names at the bottom of their ads so that their crappy Escort comes up when searching for Fleetwood.:rant2:

No need to apologize! I'm all about the saturation and depth =)
