Got a nice little surprise when I got home today! I have been bugging Jess for a trans tune since I got my car and he definately delivered. If you guys got a mail order tune I could not get the handheld to work with it. Kept giving me an unlock ECM error. I had to put my stock one back in and then it worked perfectly. I did not get a check engine light for a crank relearn after I put my old ECM in. I am not sure if Jess put something in the handheld for that. Hopefully he can comment.

This is where you plug the connector in the above picture into the car (It is to the right of the hood latch):

You will get power once you plug it in.

In the interface go to Program Vehicle:

Then Custom Tune:

You will get three options (Jess can customize what the three do)

min tune and trans
max tune and trans
pulley tune and trans

I would of posted pictures but they came out way to blurry.

Going back to stock is available in another section.

Once you pick the one you want then the Handheld will unlock your ECU. Once it is finished unlocking it starts to program.

I will be honest I was not impressed with the auto when I got this car and wished I held out for a manual. I put around 20 miles on the car after the trans tune and I must say this is the best mod you can possible get for an automatic V2. The stock tranny always felt conservative, sluggish paddle shifts, throttle response lags at times, and short shits on WOT. Jess did a very good job and fixed all the problems. Jess did a good job with redline and that made a huge difference on how hard the car pulls when you get on it. Paddle shift improved drastically but not what you would consider putting the car in danger of damage. In my opinion a perfect balance without risking too much. Throttle response is so much better now. When you touch the gas it responds without the (wadda I do now) lag it sometimes has. In closing the car pulls so much harder with the trans tune. I went through all the gears to about 120 and I said damn that pulled hard. It was like regaining stolen HP.

Glad your happy. The complete tune is definatly a night and day difference for the fun factor... Track times should start comming in shortly. People should be reporting soon.

The next batch of exhausts will hopefully be done tommorrow so if anyone wants one let me know or just go thru paypal and send funds. I dont know how many more catbacks i will be making. They take a while to make each one, and i dont have a lot of free time. So far, there are 15 out there. Ill probably only make 15 more and stop.. We will see.

The exhaust completes the whole package to make one mean bitchin car.... Well and the fact of you being able to go back to stock in 15 minutes....

Last night I had to put an updated tune on my handheld so I figured I would share the process with you guys.

Software Type you will have 3 options:
1) Device Firmware
2) Device Tune Revision
3) Device Update Software

Pick number 3 and here is a direct link just in case:

How to use the X3 GM Updater Software:
To update your X3/SF3 GM device Firmware:
1) Download and install X3/SF3 GM Updater Software.
2) Download and save the latest firmware for your Device.
3) Setup X3/SF3 GM for a firmware update:
X3/SF3 -> Press and hold the Cancel button on the X3/SF3 device while plugging in the USB Cable.
4) Open the Updater Software and press the Update Firmware button.
5) Browse for and Select the firmware file when prompted (*.LWU).
6) The firmware update will begin transferring the new firmware to your device.

To update the Tune Revision (pre-loaded tune files) for the SF3 GM device:
1) Download and install X3/SF3 GM Updater Software.
2) Download and save the latest Tune Revision for your Device.
3) Plug in the SF3 GM without holding any buttons.
4) Open the Updater Software and Press the Transfer File Button.
5) Browse for and Select the Tune Revision file that you saved (*.LFU).
6) The Tune Revision Update will begin transferring to your device.

To add Custom Tunes (.ll3's) to the X3/SF3 GM device:
1) Download and install X3/SF3 GM Updater Software.
2) Download and save the latest Tune Revision for your Device.
3) Plug in the X3/SF3 GM without holding any buttons.
4) Open the Updater Software and Press the Live Load Tunes Button.
5) Press the Browse button, and locate your saved ll3 file, then click open.
6) Select a file position and type a name for the custom tune.
7) Press Program to add the tune file to the X3/SF3 GM.
Notes: Used to Email Custom tunes for GM Applications.
Supports both *.LL3 and *.CEF file formats.

Use the USB cable to connect the handheld to your computer. In Device Manager you will see the following:

So when you get an update from Jesse it will come with a .cef file extension. In the X3LW Updater Application you simply click on the Load Custom Tune File and you get this:

So browse to the appropriate file, then select which of the 3 banks you want to modify and then hit program. You can edit the text on the bank as well.

Takes a few minutes to complete and then you get this:

One more note on the hand held connection to the PC:

The USB cable that came with the hand held does not always work. [email protected] told me the hand held requires more power from the USB that that cable can supply. So I took a USB printer cable that was fatter, and voila, the hand held powers up fine.
So there's shouldn't be any problem for Jesse to send out tunes.

Unfortunate for me, my hand held *still* won't recognize the ECU after the tranny swap.
Jesse tells me it might take 255 key turns before the tranny locks.
I've tuned the key on and off (without starting the car) over 255 times and nada.
Now i'm going to start the car 5 times before I drive away to see if that will get the count down.

Can anybody out there verify what the product number for the tranny is?
Rudy originally told me the product number changed, but then Jesse tells me it didn't.
Plug the hand held into the car, and select Vehicle Info. In that submenu, select Vehicle Info again and it will read the product numbers.
Scroll down or press continue to see all product numbers.

Also, I'm currently running FW 1.2.111.5 on the hand held.
Jesse originally send it out with FW 9.2.109.5, but i don't have a copy of that anymore.

I downloaded the latest version and used it. I heard there were firmware issues so I got my handheld current.

Well, now I'm a bit confused because, I talked to Jess a few weeks ago, right after I purchased the tuner, and asked him if I should upgrade my firmware to the latest, which was posted on SCT's web site. He told me at that time NOT to do it because, because our tuners, (set up for GM, v2's, etc.), had a special firmware version loaded into them. So now I don't know .. ? Guess I'll try to call him again.

This is a brand new programmed tuner, they had my VIN, etc so anyone know the trick to getting this max performance program uploaded to my CTS V with no other mods??

Odd, 1-2-N-V had the same problem and it was resolved.

You might still running the old firmware. I tested the new firmware 1.2.112.6 and it worked fine.
