Uh.....dig those crazy crumple zones. I'm sure any injuries sustained in a head on would buff right out. :pwn:

I'm calling bs on that one. No car designer / engineer would ever design a car to crumple like that in a crash. That VW was modified to do that for that video. That can be the only explanation.

Haha, take that people who abide by compact cars!

(Yes, yes, I know that most small cars will not do this, but still)

I dunno, that is an older model... 60's or 70's? I dunno... I think its just the build quality before all the safety laws were put into place.

With those old bus's, same with the Beetle, the engine was in the back.... there wasn't a whole lot of structure up front, and more weight in back etc....

Everybody gripes about the govenment meddling in car design but those old crackerbox VW's really are that bad. Without some standards they'd still be like that. About 65% of the structure, the weight mass, and everything else is in the back. There is no protection for anything in the front. It's a good thing they were the hippy favories otherwise there'd be even more of the smelly buggers.

They're just like the hippies who drive them; ugly, smelly, slow, often decorated in un-appealing fashion, wearing large peace signs (the footprint of the American Chicken), and popular for unfathomable reasons, but realy useless and unable to deal with real-world situations!

Now this is where it's at:

Couldn't find crash tests of classic Cads, though, but I remember seeing one from a program on car safety, from the segment on air bags, since when they became big again in the early 90s people were concerned with how they would age. The pulled an old DeVille with ACRS from the junk yard (imagine the ordeal to find that!) and crash-tested it, the ACRS worked like a charm! Those old GM Air Cushion Restraint System cars actually had two-stage air bags! I'd love to have one of those cars...

I love how when they're taking the dummy out at the end he's got his hand at his head like "Ow my head...".
I haven't had french since grammar school but they said the test was a head-on, the results were catastrophic, and it took two people to open the door because the structure was deformed.
