The "9" has a higher HP than the "Y".

the "9" or L37 makes 295 HP (300 HP depending on the year).

The "Y" or LD8 makes 270 HP (275 HP depending on the year).

The new "V" is higher still with the addition of a supercharger.

The "V" makes 440 HP

The CTS-V has the pushrods.

The STS-V (and other models too) has the blown 4.4 L Northstar.

As this post was under "Northstar Performance" I was noting Northstar engine values, and not including the CTS-V with a non-Northstar engine.

JIMD has noted the difference in V's in his post above.

Since it's kind of on topic......... Anybody know the intake manifold differences between the supercharged model, and say, <99 4.6L models? Or y2k+ models for that matter...... M112 supercharger I assume?

Sorry..... must find an easy way to get B00ST

teh new northstar engine is the LH2 I believe? (Bbob, feel free to jump in). It's very different from any model before it. The main different is the variable valve timimg. You can get a supercharger to fit the northstar, the trouble is proamming the PCM to work with it.

OMG... I want one... I read that article and I want a 4.4L V series N* cadillac sooooo bad. I'm thinking the STS. I'd prefer the XLR...but I found I can't fit in one. They are way to small.

Here is my question though. Considering all these new WIZZZBANG things they are doing to the N*. What are the chances that the V series will last over 100k miles? Personnally if the vehicle doen'st have much of a chance seeing 250k on minimul maintainance I'm not interested, but it is a cadillac. I'd be willing to make an exception.

M122 huh? They use the 112 on the 4.6 cobras, so..

It sounds like they're using the same heads....... Or at least as the VVT northstar (2004?) If I remember right, the 2000 shares the same intake port layout as the VVT...... So............ In *theory*, I think it will drop on y2k+ models. Maybe I'll have to pick up a 2000 to drop in place of my 95.

In this thread in the Engines; Northstar forum the "-V" refers to the supercharged Northstar series. For other models a V means different powertrain packages.

This thread had been dead for 15.5 years .............. nice find.

Oh no shit. How many people stumble across this thread the same way I did. Looking for the Vin code for cars like the normally aspirated Ls6 and go trouncing off with vad information. Vin code of the cady is V for Six, G for supercharged. A code is for LH2 VVT engine. Northstars are A 9 G and Y. V option model is not the Vin code. 8th digit is the engine only. RPO codes for transmissions are also not Vin codes. Oh, the 9th digit is a zero knowledge table number to check if the Vin is authentic. How nice of not to think before you bitch about what Google finds.

Well, based on the fact the thread was dead for 15-1/2 years before you decided to offer up unnecessary information that has nothing to do with Northstar engines, I'm guessing the answer is "very few". Or maybe thousands and thousands of people who have stumbled across this thread in the past 15-1/2 years, but the rest of them actually read it and realized there was no need to become a member of the forum just to post non-Northstar information in a thread in the Northstar forum.
