I finally got a second set of original crested keys for my gold edition Eldorado, but nobody can cut them anymore. The hardware store won’t do them. I guess it’s to the dealership?

that's ridiculous - there is absolutely nothing special about duplicating that key -
find another hardware store - both Menards and Home Depot will cut your keys -

Find a local automotive locksmith. Probably cut them right in your driveway.

We cut them here at Western (Tire &) Auto in Stevensville.

Busy day - car show here tomorrow. I'm off at noon - 5 hour p/t day.

Welcome to the Funny Farm!!!

Yes, an automotive locksmith can find, cut, check keys right in your driveway or in front of a shop. They can also log into the various car manufacturers databases to get the correct key description for a particular car. BUT it helps if you know the description of the correct key for your car - resistance value - there are 10 or more possibilities. Some locksmiths can also sell and program fobs for cars that use them.

I had a local retired Army guy do extra keys for the Explorer and trucks. Less than 1/3 the price of dealerships. Well-stocked van/workshop.

Jackson, Please update your profile with your vehicle model and year and maybe general location - it helps with other advice and diagnosis.
