My local Cadillac dealer wants $600 to install my UUC Shifter. Does this sound right for a dealer install?

The $600 is based on the procedure as shown in the Shop Manual (which I also have) and involves removing the exhaust, the drive shaft and lowering the transmission. I understand that there are short cuts, but dealers have no incentive to assume the risks associated with short cuts just to charge less. But my question is whether the $600 is consistent with other dealers.

Lyndsay Cadillac does it for $150.00 I heard. Big 3 in Wisconsin did it for me for less than that. Sounds like your dealer doesn't want the job. Should be a 1.5 hour job tops.

PS Both Lyndsay and Big 3 do it the hard way from the bottom.

That might be right for doing all that extra BS, but you DON'T need to remove the exhaust and you DON'T need to remove the driveshaft (propshaft :) ), so my guess would be 2-1/2 to 3 hrs for a first timer. 60 minutes tops for the second time.

Yes, I agree that my dealer apparently doesn't want the job. Thanks for the info.

Your time estimates sound right to me. I just need to find an installer that charges for actual time instead of the Shop manual standard of 5.8 hours. Thanks for you input.

Yup, Lindsay quoted me at $143.45. I'm going to be venturing down to Va for several things in the near future. ;D This forum has probably given them a lot of business, I've heard nothing but good things about them.

I spoke with Lindsay today, apparently my uuc is on back order till next week. He too said it's only 1.5 hours, really easy and all you have to do is lower the exhaust if you want it to be easy, but he said it was possible to do it without if you don't mind scraping a knuckle or two... I cant wait!!
