Im about to pull the trigger on a V wagon. I live in Toronto, and the car I have my eyes on is a US model.

My question, does the CTS V convert at the push of a button to KM/H from MPH ? My 2000 vett does. The car only has one set of numbers on the dial, and tops out @ 200 MPH. In Canada 300 is standard on a car with this much power. (on the speedo)

If i were to have to change it, is it a big deal ??

Not that I would ever dream of going over 200 kmh officer........

Just sayin':lildevil:

I was going to buy new here but it was $84,000 out the door so don't blame ya going south of the border. I Picked mine up from Florida and YES with just a button you can switch between metric and standard.

The speedo, supercharger, temp gauge are all fixed. Supercharger is in PSI not KPA ( who the hell measures in KPA) so that's better and the temp is in F* not C* which is also better IMO. As for the speedo yes if you think your gonna wind it out you could convert back to MPH as the needle would pin at 200 KPH....do that before your winded out in 4th lol. But when your in metric mode the speedo does say KPH right behind the needle and it adjusts to KPH

Thought it would bother me so I did check into it before i bought the car and it was about $1000 to switch the dash out to metric, like I said its only if you break 200KPH often enough I would've done it, I don't think it will bother you it hasn't for me. Plus as Smokin80 said you have the digital display right there as well.

Yeah, Brian is correct. However, when I change my Canadian V's speedometer to mph instead of km/hr, the numbers on the dial do not change. I've had some fun kidding some American friends when I switch over to mph and I show them my speedo that still reads to 330 - and it indicates mph on the dial face! I tell 'em I've got a one-off factory special... like the old COPO Chevys. LOL!
I'm guessing the numbers on American cars also remain the same when you switch over to metric and that your needle will be spending a lot of time on the higher side of the dial.

Good luck on your purchase and having it brought over! I'm just north of Toronto on Lake Simcoe

Best regards,

Elie

If you find a cheaper supplier please let us know. However, when I did the conversion to my wife's Subaru back in 2008 I used a company from Ontario named Niagara Speedometer. I had to take the cluster out by myself, send it to them, it was back in about a week and it was $400 plus shipping (aroud $50 as the cluster S/N matches last four digits of the VIN). State of the art work, worth every penny as it also changed my temp dials for AC to Celsius.

It's the most "complete" digital conversion I've seen on a car. There is nothing, save the top speedo indicator that remains in the silly...err...non-metric format.

I actually prefer the 200 kph speedo, as 100 is the needle straight up - easer to eyeball your speed.

A local dealer here has a 12 coupe, 65,000 it was 85,000 when he first took delivery last year...still on his lot. I didn't buy it cause he wouldn't deal, got mine in Alberta Nov 2011 for 76,000 out the door.
Importing from the USA is easy www.riv.ca tells you all you need to know and do.

And one thing to chime in about...

You may not get warranty from Cadillac if you import. You may have to have it here for a full 6 months before they allow you to take it in...
Yes car has to have I think it was 6000km Or be 6 months old.If it doesnt have at least those there no warranty. So o guess you wouldnt want to get new down there. i called Cadillac/GM directly a few times and confirmed this when i bought. And you don't get the road side assistance, like the flat tire repair and maybe some other things like free oil changes when importing. If you can change a tire, or have say AMA your fine as it will have the full warranty except for the roadside.

Don't forget that the manuals don't get the $2000 gas guzzler charge that the autos get. Unless you play dumb at the border..../whistling.
Not sure how this works when importing an American V into Canada, but the U.S. gas guzzler tax is not applicable in Canada. That being said, last I looked (2010), all V's in Canada (manual or auto) are subject to a $400 "Green Fee". It's tacked on to all new V sales in Canada, just as the U.S. gas guzzler fee is applied south of the border. I wonder if Canada Customs and Excise collects this $400 tax at the border on imported Vs...

The US Gas Guzzler tax isn't applicable. But the Canadian one certainly is applicable. It's $2000. Payable alongside your GST.
