I seem to have a very unique problem. No one seems to have any comments. I have a 1993 deville 4.9. the car was driving ok, it was getting a little harder to start over the past couple of weeks but it always started. Then the other day my wife took the car, came back and the next day it wouldn't start. It just turns over but nothing. I replaced the distributor cap, rotor and ignition control module. still nothing. I was getting a code no dist signal. Now I just get e52. I replaced the pcm because of something i read but still nothing. So I put the old one back in. I am not getting any spark. I was going to replace the crank position sensor but I couldn't find where it went. not sure if that would keep the car from getting spark

some folks here with your gerneration car have had issues with the harness to the distributor ....may want ot get out your OHM meter and test to make sure the harness is ok ...

I had the same problem with the 'no dist signal' code in my '93 Deville. I, too, was not getting a spark, but it was intermittent. It happened only when the engine was warm. After much, much troubleshooting using the Factory Service Manual, I found it simpler to replace the entire distributor: cap, body, electronics, rotor, everything. At 270,000 miles on the original distributor, it made sense. Cost $75 at the junkyard.

The problem disappeared just like magic!

You might consider this as it is rather inexpensive and *quick*. If you do this and you have never pulled a distributor from an engine block before, make sure you clean as much dirt from the base of the distributor where it enters the engine block. There's probably a mount of oily dirt there. If you pull the distributor without removing the dirt first, the dirt will fall into the engine.

Also, *make sure* that the old thrust washer comes out with the old distributor - it might stick to the bottom of the distributor shaft well. The thrust washer just slaps on the bottom of the distributor gear at the bottom of the distributor shaft.

From one capt to another, I had a similar issue with my 4.9 that came from a 93 Elderado, it turned out to be the plug that goes into the base of the dist cap was dirty and loose, causing an intermetint miss and hard start. I swapped to an MSD box that caused me to replace that plug and the problem went away.

However just pulling that plug and using a nail file to clean up the contacts might help out. Spray a little WD40 into it to loosen any dirt or gunk.

I don't come on here much but I will try to pop back and see how it went.

And to all that have not seen me around much, it is for great reason. My 4.9 in my Fiero has been running awesome, and my agent has gotten me tons of work on Battle Star Galactica and other Movies and TV shows. So I am finally able to make some money to make the 4.9 even faster. Ya.

I had the same problem on my 90 fleetwood. All of a sudden it just died 1 mile from my house. No dist signal code and no spark. I cleaned every connector that goes to the distributor and replaced the cap, rotor, and coil(I didn't really need to replace the coil but at 208000 on the factory coil I figured what the heck) and she has been running good ever since
