Would anybody consider to swap an in-line 6 BMW engine into a RWD caddy? Those things produce unbelievable power and that engine will handle all of that wieght. I think it would be very cool to do something like that to a caddy!!! It would be a hell of a lot of work! People want to put 3.8 V6's in front wheel drive caddies, why not a german in-line 6 into a RWD? I know exactly what has to be involved to do such an insane project, but it is still possible.

Yeah that's unique. For a reason, because it's a stupid plan. No offense to you, but there are are so many choices that would push more power with less effort and less investment.

Lets say you stick an I6 out of an M3 into a 78 Fleetwood. You now have a car that weighs around 4000lbs even (and that's being generous with the weight savings) and pushes 333hp @ 7900rpm and 262ft.lbs. @4900. Having your torque peak at nearly 5 grand in a car that weighs 2 tons is just a horrible plan. You'd HAVE to rev that thing out to at least 4k just to keep up with the Geo Metro next to you.

Now lets say you've got the same Fleetwood and you stick a bone stock 500" BBCaddy in it. It'll weigh about 4300. You're gonna make about 300hp. And 500ft.lbs. @ ~2400rpm. And you'd smoke the hell out of that fictional I6 car. With that much torque at low RPMs you wouldn't have to rev far past 2k in daily driving.

Oh, and noone should want to swap a 3800v6 into a FWD Caddy, unless it's one of the earlier 4.x models where a northstar might not fit. Sprayed Northstar = 400-425hp or so. To even get to that power level from a L67 you're looking at aftermarket forged internals, upgraded cam and valvetrain = a whole lot of cash.

I saw a northstar in an 87 deville, car was stock, but with a northstar. It took the guy(s) 2 years to do that project, had kinda limited cash, and they had to strip the car down completly. But it worked perfectly. Yes they did have a donor 1997 deville which was rolled and filled with mud. It worked perfectly in the end and that car accelerated WOW!!!! fast! That guy collects caddies and has about 13 of them. Really old ones. It turned out better on gas that the 97.

I'd like a N* in my moms 92 Ciera, sleeper from hell. I'd even settle for a 4.6 Caddy motor!
