Help!

I have an older carriage house kind of garage, with doors that swing open. I must get out of my 2015 SRX to open the door. When I do, my SRX beeps three times. It is telling me I removed the key without turning off the engine; I get that.

I need it to stop. At six am in the morning and midnight this is just not acceptable. The need to dig the key out of my pocket to leave it in the running vehicle is not acceptable. Turning off the vehicle for fifteen seconds to open the garage is unacceptable.

Nowhere in the manual or convenience features manual do I find a way to quiet this “feature”.

Anyone have actual knowledge (not a guess) of how to quiet this “feature”?

And, yes, I can check with the dealer. I'd like to turn this on and off myself.

Hi SteveWolf,

I can understand how this feature would be an inconvenience given your situation. It looks like Crunch_the_numbers has already given you some advice that can be located on pages 5-43 and 5-44 of your owner’s manual. If this does not work, please PM me with your VIN and I can check with an internal resource to see if there are other ways to stop this vehicle notification.

Enjoy your day,

I turned it off on my 2014 SRX. We travel with a small dog. After parking, I would walk around the car to open the wife's door, so she could hand me our Boston Terrier. I would get to about the hatch area when the horn would beep 3 times. Startled me every time. I also have a 2013 CTS-V. When I parked in the garage yesterday there was a fast beeping until I got out and closed the door. I had set the E-brake and that was the only message on the dash. It is a 6 speed manual so it couldn't have been prompting me to put it in park.

Thanks, but that is not the issue. I didn't think this would work, but tried and confirmed, it won't.

The issue is NOT leaving the keys in the car. The issue is taking the keys out of the car while the car is still running. It will beep three times. I cannot leave the car and open the garage without the horn beeping. That is unacceptable at 6 am or 1 am. Leaving the keys in the running car is unacceptable. Turning the car off for fifteen or thirty seconds is unacceptable.

When leaving the car with the keys, while the car is running, the car should not beep.

Thanks Austin, I appreciate your reply. The prior suggestion was not the issue. I replied to that. I would appreciate your thoughts.

For those brief moments when exiting car, just don't shut the door all the way. No way to disable this, it's a prompt to help keep idiots from killing themselves by forgetting to turn car off in the garage.

I am thinking of disconnecting the horn. It does not matter if the door is open or closed, it beeps as soon as it looses contact with the key, I guess.

I really should not have to disconnect the horn to solve a problem in a 2015 Cadillac. This is really sad and makes me hope I am not in for other "features".

Hi Steve,

I brought this to the attention of a technical specialist in my department. According to our internal resources, this notification is considered a safety feature and cannot be deactivated at this time. I definitely understand that you were hoping for a different resolution and I’m sorry that I am not able to provide that to you. If you would like to send me a PM with your VIN, mileage, and personal contact information, I can document your feedback regarding this feature and push that through to the appropriate departments within GM.

Best regards,

Austin J.

I just went out in the garage and tried this. Doesn't happen on my '13. Doesn't matter if I leave the door open or close it. Either way it doesn't happen when I'm out of the vehicle. I was going to suggest to you that leaving the car door open while you're out of the vehicle closing the garage door would take care of it, but in fact it just doesn't happen for me at all.

Take a look at the "Passive Door Lock" feature in CUE under that same general area as the other setting. There are three options, one of which is "with horn chirps". Maybe you have that one set. I have it set to just "ON".

Yes indeed this could be considered a Safety concern. I for one have thought I hit the start button on the dash to turn off the engine and exited the SRX and suddenly realized that the car was still running. If this was to happen inside a closed area it could cause someone to get very sick or even die from exhaust fumes. With lawsuits being the norm these days Safety has to be foremost for all car manufactures.

Is this new in the '15s then? It does NOT happen on my '13 (which also has CUE). Whether I leave the door open or close it, it does not happen. Maybe it's a time thing? How long after you exit the vehicle does it happen? Why would this be a safety feature when you can do a remote start and leave the car run for 10 minutes even if its in a garage without the horn beeping?

If the answer is "8 seconds" (more or less), then I'm still inclined to think it's that Passive Door Lock feature is set to "with horn chirps".

I would believe the deference is this... using your "remote" to start your vehicle is a "conscience" decision to turn your vehicle ON ... usually leaving your vehicle "ON" when you are exiting would be considered accidental.

Here are a few of the many situations that the "feature" becomes a pain:

I stop at my office to get my mail. When the girlfriend is in the car, I leave it running. "Beep beep beep".

I forget something and have to go back into the house. As the temperature is minus eighteen, I leave the car running. "Beep beep beep"

I leave the car running at the gas pump, again because it is minus eighteen. "Beep beep beep"

The garbage truck left the garbage can in the middle of the drive. "Beep beep beep"

I stop to assist someone broke down on the road. The girlfriend is in the car. "Beep beep beep"

The list goes on.

Leaving with the key has nothing to do with leaving the key in the car. Toggling the "key in the car" function on or off does not change the fact that the horn beeps three times when I leave with the key.

To me, honestly, that is only a small annoyance and that would not bother me in the least. I personally prefer to have the 3 beeps to confirm to me that when I left the vehicle I also left the vehicle running or left the keys in the vehicle.

You forgot one.

Turn the car off and "Beep beep beep". Mine beeps just for turning the car off about 50% of the time. I don't even budge and inch, open a door, nothing.

I did think of a possible solution. If I buy another key, get it programmed and hide it in the car, I can turn the "key left in vehicle beep-beep-beep" function off. I think that will shut the damn thing up. I am going to try it with the spare key first time I see that the neighbors are not home.

My neighbors, who drive Mercedes, now call my car "beep beep beep". "How's beep-beep-beep going?" "Did Cadillac fix beep-beep-beep yet?"

Steve,
My 2014 only beeps at me if I get out while the vehicle running and I close the driver door all the way. I've got passive locking set to on, and delayed locking set to on as well. It drove me nuts, as here in Canada we have Superboxes for mail delivery for all new developments since about 20 years ago. I stop to pick up my mail at my development entrance. Every time I got out, taking my keys with me because my mailbox key is on the set, triple beep. Discovered that if I close the door so it catches, but is not completely closed (first catch basically) the car is secure (no one can bash into an open door) but the triple beep is defeated.

Try that lock setting combo, and only partially close the door. Maybe that combo will work in the 2015.
