Tune-UP this weekend; questions..

First off: 98 Deville, 71,500 miles.

Did the plugs already(AC's). Coolant has been done. I will use all synthetic 5W-30, Bosch filter. Anyone use Bosch wire set? Good, bad? What about the fuel filter? I've gotten two sides to that one. Anything else to take care of? Maybe a new serpentine belt? Thanks all! V.

I'd stick with AC Delco for wires, I've heard the Northstars can be picky about non-OEM plugs and wires. And I'd use an AC Delco fuel filter as well, they aren't that expensive.
You probably don't need a new belt. My last two cars had 107k & 125K on them when I upgraded and the belts where still in good condition. These belts last much longer than the old V belts. Inspect it. Small cracks are normal. Chunks missing, replace it.

I would stick with the AC-Delco wire set instead of the Bosch. I'm not a fan of Bosch products anymore after several bad experiences, but in general, the Delco wire set is designed for use in your car and others have given bad results in the past. It costs a few more bux, but it's known to work well. The AC-Delco fuel filter is cheaper than the Fram, and while it's probably not necessary, it can be changed pretty easily in just a few minutes. A new PCV valve is a $2 part and takes about 1 minute to change. You might put a couple drops of oil on the spring of the water pump belt tensioner and move it around just a bit to exercise it and make sure it's not frozen. Got a good air filter? What about cleaning the throttle body bore and blade? Bosch oil filters are OK, but Purolator PureONE and PremiumPlus filters are better, as well as AC-Delco filters, Mobil1 ($$$), Wix, and several others. Synthetic oil is an unnecessary expense, IMHO. Fram oil filters haven't tested very well and they don't seem to be constructed very well. More info on filters available here:

Thanks mcowden and all! Good points there. I will opt for the AC wires. No reason to take chances. The reason I was going to use synthetic is that regular oil is now pretty close in price to the synthetic type here:mad: . I will definately check the tensioner out. I already did the throttle body out when I changed the plugs. I still need to reset the computer though. Haven't done that yet. Thanks guys for your help!! Oh, BTW, I will also pick-up New River Pale Ale for Me! :thumbsup:
Isn't your engine recommended for 10W30 oil...??..not 5W30.??

It is probably 10W-30 recommended, but 5W-30 will be fine for cold temperatures. I was guessing Vinny is preparing for winter with the lower winter weight oil. It'll be fine I'm sure.
