We're "trying out" a 2001 STS this week. With my husband's back/neck injury, I'm afraid our days of little sports cars are in the past, so we're going for comfort and luxury...and the STS is by far the most comfortable we've tested. The adjustable seats are a dream.
We've noticed one problem and wondered if it is common to all 2001 STS's. With the sliding sunroof open, between 26-42 mph, there is...not exactly a noise, but more like a loud low frequency vibration that pounds in our ears. Has anyone else noticed this problem...and is there a way to correct it (other than close the sunroof).

The car is an off-lease deal...low mileage (30K), and looks fairly clean. We've requested the service record to see if all of the routine maintenance was performed...other than that, is there any other advice anyone would like to offer us before we sign on the dotted line?

Thanks!

Hello.. And welcome aboard! Thanks for signing up

That noise you refer to is common.... I suppose you could install a wind deflector........ You could also try rolling down the rear windows.......

Does the little flap thing in the front of the sunroof area stick up.......? It should be a metal flap looking thing, and when the sunroof is back to should flip up..... At least I think thats how its setup, someone else can help.......

Just make sure all the maintenance was done...... Compare what was done and at what time to the intervals in the manual.....

Other than that, you should be pretty good!!!

Mine does the same thing while at highway speeds. Usually cracking a rear window or varying the amount that the sunroof is open will solve the problem. Hope this helps.
