This has to do with my 97 sts.

So a few weeks ago i noticed that when i pop the trunk via the fob or inside button the pull down latch isn't raising up. (i have no tried the key, but the process is the same no matter how it's opened).

When it first started happening if i left it alone for a few minutes it all the sudden would engage. But lately it won't, and i have to use that little plastic lever to raise it up manually until i hear it click.

It pulls down perfectly fine when closed, and using that lever it comes up after pumping it a few times, so i don't believe any gears are stripped.

I poked around on the boards and didn't see anything relating to a lazy latch.

I also noticed one night my trunk light wasn't on, but i think it's because the sensor is tied into that latch, cuz i seem to recall once i raised the latch up the light came on.

Anyone seen an issue like this?

I think every cadillac ends up with this problem. 90% of the time, it's something to do with the paddle switch sitting on top of the motor. My dads one simply had a bad connection between that switch and the motor. I took a small flat file and cleaned the terminals, then I bent the terminals for a more solid connection. It's worked fine ever since.

The one on my car was bad connections inside of that paddle switch. I had to drill out the rivets, then clean the connections inside the switch. After that I drove to Ace and bought some nuts and bolts to replace the rivets. It worked fine for a few years after that, then it acted up again and I said screw it. I took the switch off then took two paper clips and hotwired the motor to the down position. Orange is constant positive and black is ground.
