yeah mine is the same...the first 3 inches kidna sucks...i think it;s just because its a funny moment you're trying to overcome with the hinges. kinda bad engineering for a luxury if you ask me...my old 87 riviera had a wonderful hood pop...

It's odd, that's for sure till you go to lift it by hand and realize how large the hydraulic's would need to be to pop that heavy sucker up. In my Nissan Max you have to get your face out of the way - it could knock you out. Not so with the CTS. I have not given any real thought as to what could be so heavy but it is a lot of metal and brake lights.

We also had a Nissan Maxima. One day while trying to unload groceries, my wife got knocked on the jaw pretty good. It sounds funny, but it really wasn't. She got dinged pretty good.

My guess is that the hydraulic lifts are a safety feature. I am not 100% sure, but after the Maxima experience, I really appreciate the way the CTS trunk works.

I've actually checked into this. The current location of the two struts were it attaches at the front of the trunk lid is not designed to lift it up, its at the wrong location for that. However a body rep tells me that a second set of struts that connects were the trunk bends at the center brake light would in fact lift the trunk out of the way. You have to fabricate a mounting location further up on the quarter panel and then another bracket at the trunk bend point. At this point it was more of a project that I was willing at this time to persue. I wonder if the STS has a system that might work, I'll have to check the trunk on one the next time I'm at the dealer.

It's hard as hell to open, not good when you've got a ton of stuff in your hands waiting to be put in the trunk lol.

I'd risk the whack to the jaw if the trunk would open easier by itself lol.

CTS and STS trunk lids are different in shape, but similar in operation. It barely moves up and you have to lift it.
I am not sure why Cadillac went away from the pop all the way open design.
The struts are engineered to hold the trunk open, not open it for you.
Maybe in the future they will change the design. Depends on how much green we are talking about I am sure.

you talking about the car or the wife ??

If its the car thats would of sucked , if it was the wife :hmm:
I don't want my lovely one to get whacked in the jaw.

Seriously, I don't have any complaints about how the trunk opens, and I am constantly loading it and unloading it with all kinds of stuff.

Cadillac had a auto trunk opener. I had one on my 2001 Eldorado. It also pulled the lid down and locked it. Problem was many of the owners were accustomed to slamming the trunk lid shut. That often resulted in damaged closer mechanisms. Cadillac eliminated it in 2003.

You also have to watch the latch mechanism on the CTS lid as it can crack you in the head..really.

I've dealt with my sloppy tranny and potentially whiney rearend and squeaky plastic interiors panels with stride. But now this trunk lid won't open. That's it, I'm sellin' the car. :) :) All in jest, guys. I actually wish it would open as well. How many times have I gotten dirt on my dress pants because I instinctly knelt against the bumber so I could balance groceries and open the lid. Not to mention, its pretty hard to open when both wrists are in casts...

Cadillac is supposed to be for older ppl(stereotype), I dont see how any 90 yr old could open that trunk(no pun intended). What really annoys me, is that when im with friends , the trunks open , but they give it a go to tug up on my spoiler to get it open- really gets under my skin.I wouldn't mind an automatic lift/close, afterall it is a luxury car.Even if it broke, the car would still be under warranty for the fix.

That's the reason they stopped it. It cost them to much to replace!!

What I think is that it's pretty funny how people can nit pick at every little thing. If it's not one thing it's another. Gezz guys, get your a$$ out of the car and lift the truck. It's not like your bench pressing 250lbs every time you open it. Pop the thing and open it. Buy a minivan if you want a truck to open and shut by itself.

It's a Caddy Forum. Nit picking our cars is what we do here:yup:
I have an '04 and the hood has two gas struts. I wish the trunk lid lifted as easily as my hood does.
