I recently had my 1959 Cadillac worked on after it sat for 10 years. The motor was given a overall inspection, tune up, oil change, spark plugs, brakes, tires, points. Runs smooth, but the battery seemed to struggle to restart the car after driving. Checked generator and was only putting out 11 or 12 volts at idle. The mechanic says it sounds like charging trouble. Is it worth rebuilding the generator? Is it better to replace with alternator? Is there anything that needs to be changed if switching to alternator? Thanks
Tom

You'd have to define "worth" and "better" for a couple of your questions, but this hit only took a second of googling and quite useful for starting out:

Bruces 57 sure shared some helpful insights. If Cady has a habit of using different colored wiring then a good idea to gather more intel if deciding on the conversion. It appears there's an aftermarket for kits for this too.
