Hey everyone, I tried to clean my engine of carbon by going to a blank street....throwing it in neutral on flat ground and flooring it to about 6000 RPM's Actually after 2 seconds....I stopped lol I was a little scared I would blow something up. But I did throw a SES code, Mass air flow...nothing important I hope PC0101 What am I doing wrong? Please help. Thanks!!!!!

On another note lol the switch for the drivers side seat...the bottom one that says back next to it will only work one way. What do I do? Thanks!

Wo! 6000 RPM seems a little excessive to blow carbon.....I had it up past 5000 and I was "concerned" already!

Also I was on the freeway, in second gear, get it up to high rom then engine brake down to low and repeat.

A search for WOT on this forum should give you some ideas for doing it safer next time.....I hope that code is just a warning that won't comeback once you reset it.
You need to clean it out under load. That is, in second gear, WOT to shift point. NEVER in neutral.
yeah, lol... racing the engine in neutral will do nothing good for it.

run it wide open from 0-80 a couple times.
The guys are right, check the Cadillac Technical Archive up above and see the WOT procedure. I've been wearing it out once or twice a week. Its a blast and it's good for the engine!:sneaky:
Yea lol i read it... but I wasnt sure....Im missing something, If I go on the highway, can I just shift into second while Im going like 60? Or do I need to be stopped to shift? and do go back into drive? lol I dont want to mess up the transmission. Thanks!
just put it into 2nd
THEN drive onto the freeway
do your thing
then you can shift up to drive

if your going slow enough (say 35 mph) I bet you can shift into 2nd from drive.
Good thing you told me lol I wouldnt want my driveshaft popping up through my car, killing me and others around me :-0 lol I will try it this weekend, I bet it wastes your gas? Do you think I harmed anything by being in neutral? Thanks
LOL...I don't think so but you did trigger a DTC right? (or is your SES light really on? if so you may have an issue there)
Anyways, if its acting the same as before I wouldn't sweat it.
BTW I was sitting a Porsche this morning and saw that the tach redlined at 6200 RPM....and I though of you ;-)

Sure it wastes gas but who cares its fun AND supposedly good for your car!

PS Don't quote me but do FWD cars have driveshafts per se?

I doubt you did any harm. I believe there is rev limiter that will shut down fuel if it is over reved in neutral to protect it. The engineers thought of everything.

not driveshafts but smaller axle shafts(cv joints etc.) which go from the trans to each front wheel they can break but not a likely thing to happen i had one break a long time ago on a dodge caravan but that's only because it was popping for a while and after about a year it just broke but no damage was done
I'm usually in third gear doing normal 55 mph in a clear lane on the highway, then i drop it to second mash the accelerator to the floor and hold it until the transmission shifts. The car is at about 92mph very quickly, then you let off the gas and let it coast til 55 again and give it a mash! You can see the whiff of carbon leaving in the rear view.As the tech set up states its good for seating the rings and blowing out the carbon. Be sure to be on a good stretch of HIGHWAY though, you are traveling the length of a football field rather quickly and you need the room!!!!
Why mess with manually shifting the transmission?

This is an automatic transmission.

Just floor it - the tranny will downshift to a lower gear it knows is safe. Keep the throttle to the floor and let the tranny upshift at its redline, about 6250.

I know, the procedure is to lock it into a lower gear, 2nd, then after you accelerate you let off the gas so it will make the car de-accelerate aganist the tranny and pistons, which is to put stress on the rings in a somewhat 'opposite' direction than when accelerating.

But I usually try to hit two or three redline upshifts. Of course, this means you are going 90mph or more when it upshifts out of 3rd. You need room one the road and no police around.
It says to put it in 2nd to allow the engine to build up pressure and vacuum to allow the rings to clear the carbon and seat the rings. In 2nd you really get moving fast instead of the longer computer controlled correct shifts, also in second the car slows down faster than in the normal shift mode. You need room and you want to get it over with quickly since John Law or Joe citizen would surely frown on blowing by them at close to the century mark not wanting to hear it is good for your car:rant2:
