Whats up guys. First poster here. I am actually posting this question regarding my father's 1993 Cadillac Seville STS to see if you guys have experienced any simialiar problems. I did a thread search already but came up with nothing so far. Here is what is going on.

The car started acting up a couple of weeks ago and cut out a couple of times on my father while driven. I picked it up and took it for a test spin. The car had normal power with the car placed in 3rd gear but once it was in Overdrive, the was virtually no engine power whatsoever. I went through the on-board diagnostics and the only codes I pulled where regarding an engine stall and something having to do with transmission line sensor. I will have to scan it again to check them out again but has anyone had this issue before?

Also, does anyone know where you can find a Chiltons manual on one of these or something that has exploded diagrams to locate sensors...? Thanks in advance and I will post the specific codes once I get them.

Welcome :welcome: :welcome:

For a Chiltons check pep boys auto zone etc. or even a book store. what you really want is a factory service manual that is as good as a mechanic.

Don't know how to help you with the problem though. Someone else will chyme in

SES light does come on but once you shut the car down it goes off and starts up normally again. Transmission is shifting normally but it feels like there is zero engine power.

One code was PO29 and the other is listed below. Couldn't find a reference for the 29.

P056 .............................................. Transmission Input Speed Sensor

Ok, I found something about a solenoid problem for P029. The transmission input speed sensor I have experience with. I just had to replace mine this summer. The problem is, you have to take the transmission out and take the side off to get to it. I had mine done by a local trans specialist and got what I think is a deal at $400. I call this a deal because GM quoted me over $1000. I also got the fluid and filters changed. I would personally take it to a trans shop and have them check it out. I would try to find a local garage that has a good reputation and customer backing. Good Luck!

Thanks for looking into things so far. That sucks about the transmission input speed sensor. I guess I will swing it by a local transmission shop an see what they come up with.

What did you find out about PO29. I am hoping that the failure of that related component might be the trigger for the other code and perhaps I can avoid one by repairing the other.

Well, the only thing I found on the P029 was something about a shift solenoid, and I am not too familiar with them. I hope for your sake that it is causing the speed sensor error too. I'm not an expert, so maybe someone else with more experience will take notice of the post. But I think having it checked by a trans sop would be the best bet. Again, good luck.

Does anybody have a factory service manual that would indicate where that solenoid and sensor are located....? The haynes manual doesn't say squat...

Do other gears shift fine? I had a problem with the solenoid recently, i opened up the tranny from the bottom and could see the solenoid handing on wires. I had no overdirve either, but I believe that I also did not have the first or second or some other gear. If you have a solenoid code, first get that fixed, the kit is out there and is only 50$. Take 2-3 hours to change it yourself. I just did it myself. This may well take care fo the problem. Good luck!
