Yesterday my 97 Deville stopped changing gears at aroung 35-45 mph after I drove it for about 12 miles,I also noticed my temp was higher than normal so I carried it to a shop and the Mechanic said the transmission was burned up after he pulled out the dip stick ang smelled the oil.He said I need a new transmission. My question is can you tell a transmission needs replacing from smelling the dip stick? He just happen to have two to fit my car,one was a 92 Deville and a 97 Deville so he suggested the 92 would be the best one for my car because of the millage. Can a 92 Deville transmission fit a 97 Deville? Thanks I need help
