After reading through tons of information here on 4th (OD) slipping I am quite certain that it is my shift solenoid(s). Seeing as it is just 4th gear slipping out and even a local tranny shop confirming that it is most likely the problem based off the fact that the mechanic says it is usually what happens on that tranny. Local shops want to take the tranny out to do the job though so they want around 1k to do it. So before I take the job on myself I wanted to confirm one thing. I do not have any check engine light/DTC code for the shift solenoid or anything tranny related. I did a real code scan with a code scanner. Should I take this as a clear indication that it is NOT the shift solenoid(s)?

NO, You can have a bad solenoid but not get a code. Eventually you will get a code when/if the solenoid breaks.

But I'm not sure of your problem... Are the clutches slipping? engine revving without increase in speed? Or is it dropping out of 4th to 3rd?

Slips, then downshifts.

No I do not want to. I have read many of such threads, I was just saying the only local shop I have talked to says for them to do it they drop the tranny. I still have a few shops to call, they are not open on weekends.
