In my DeVille 96 everything was fine until one day while driving on the highway... bang... engine revs up, no overdirve etc... Come home... read cadillacforums.com--> clearly solenoids. Buy a kit, replace both solenoids. Stupid me! Forgot to put in the braket that holds that little filter in place. Put everything back together, get on the road.... start driving to find out gears dont switch at all. COme home--> take everything apart and discover that filter is sticking out of the valve body.
Take everything apart again, put that braket on the filter, put everythng back together again, get on the highway, car drives fine for a while, overdirve works and everything shifts fine.
On teh way home, I accelerate really hard to see how the gears change.... Bang!!!!! I feel like the car is being pushed or jerked... as if someone was pushing the brakes..... and I see my revs go up again... Darn! No fourth gear after that again. All three first gears work fine, but there is not fourth gear. And in fact, that funny thing that I knoticed that it never did before:
when going at around 55 when i accelerate the revs go up- when I release the pedal the revs go down to like 1500 and the car is coasting fine, and then the revs go up again to 2200 and I can feel like the car is slowing down as if the engine was slowing it down.
This is very noticable and it only happens at the 4th gear. You can actually feel that the engine is slowing the card down when in fourth, while other gears are fine.
Also, I suspect that it actually tries to go into fourth gear and when it does it just slows the car down, but as soon as I accelerate it goes straight to the third gear again.
Why would the fourth gear lock up like that? Could it be because of overfilling the tranny?

How much fluid is usually left in it after you drop the pan? I assumed all of it was gone, so I just put in 7 quorts of fluid after I put everyting back together and never checked the level...

I would appreciate any response to this issue. I will post more if I find out what the problem is. I get no codes right now although the tranny is screwed up!
Thanks in advance!

I think overfilling is the problem :banghead:

Usually only a quart or 2 comes out of the pan, but you MUST measure to be sure!!!!

Get it to the proper level and then see if things arent messed up (as hopefully no damage has been done, overfilling is NOT a good thing)......
