Traction Control & Check Engine Light

Every once in a while, my engine would start shaking like it’s going to die. Then the traction control and check engine light would come on. When that happens, I pull over. Shut off my car for 5 seconds, then start it up again. And it’ll be fine.
Does anyone know what would cause this? I’d like to get it fixed before it breaks. And it always happens at the worst time. When I’m on my way to work, so I don’t have time to take it to get scanned.

I had this similar issue a few weeks ago with check engine and traction control/stabilitrak. Scan showed I needed a new MAF sensor. If so, be sure to get AC Delco replacement. The knock offs don’t last. The bad shaking is a sign the sensor isn’t measuring the air properly.

Check the bottom of your fuel tank on the passenger side to make sure there's no fuel leak. It's a different area, with the same principle behind it and apparently more common since I've encountered more posts about leaking fuel modules than bad MAF sensors, both can result in a lean fuel condition that can disengage traction control. There is a MAF cleaner available for purchase to eliminate the possibility of contamination of the MAF as a cause.

Just had this happen to mine. Started with TC Light on and Service Traction Control on the DIC while driving. Two days later Check Engine light came on as well. No loss in power or abnormal idle. Pulled code, P0101 for MAF. Removed MAF and sprayed with cleaner, cleared code. Now good as new.
