I finally put enough miles on my new V to take it out on the track. After changing fluids and prepping the car for a few sessions on the track, I found out this car is nothing like my old V. This car seems to really need to be Apexed late to get the car to turn around the higher speed corners. This car also needs a to have the throttle gently increased to avoid stepping the rear end out too quickly. There is a lot of torque, and it comes on fast!

Does anyone have any tips for getting this car around the course any smoother or quicker?

Has anyone fiddled with the alignment to figure out a good set up yet?

We need more Cadillacs out at the track, it was a lonely weekend with no other fellow Cadillac drivers.

Funny I was just thinking about your track day yesterday and wondering how things went. Did John get a chance to at least ride in the V2 there ?

CIWS - John never showed up. He was involved in the Corvette group day up at TMS. I was hoping he would come by, so I could get him to plan a few quick HP mods.

Tony - As for both hands on the wheel, the car is so smooth, you don't need any hands. Be sure to wave at your kids as you enter the pits, especially when they have never been to a track day to see daddy. Also, remember to point out all of the hand holds in the car to a passenger before you go on the track! It wasn't fun having my arm get grabbed as I was trying to downshift in a fast corner.

1) Is your car an A6 or M6?

2) What alignment are you running?

3) What tire pressures are you running HOT?

4) What driving mode are you running in?

5) Are you sure you had sport suspension engaged?

6) When are you experiencing the rear end stepping out......under trail braking or exiting turns, both?

7) What problem specifically are you having that you feel the need to apex late, and of all turns, high speeds ones? Are you implying the car is pushing?

In the Motor Trend video of the V2 vs M5, the M5 was an understeering pig, with squealing tires, while the V2 was great at turning in, and quiet, but tail happy, with a lack of rear traction. This is not surprising, because the V2 has about 180 lb/ft of torque more at lower RPM going through the same size tire patch. Short of a complete redo with much bigger rear tires, one has to adjust the driving style instead. I bet traction control ON might be faster than the COMP mode, unless you have a very gentle foot and can keep out of the boost until the car is pointed straight. The M5's relative lack of torque can be an advantage coming off a corner, except when also having to launch up a hill at the same time. Maybe R compound tires would help, but I'm not sure any exist in our sizes. One can also play with tire pressures, too. The best pressure will cause the least increase in pressure when hot. This is incredibly easy to monitor now, even while driving at speed, because of the TPM. One can also monitor the G forces as changes are made, too. In my experience, the best track pressures will not work on the street, because you just can't get the tires that hot even in spirited driving.

1) the Car is an M6. I was able to run most of the track in 3rd and 4th, with only one tight corner in 2nd. I needed that gear to help get the car up a very tight uphill corkscrew.

2) the alignment is the stock alignment, we haven't figured out what adjustments would be optimal. Should we set up the same as on the V1?

3) Hot tire pressures are at 38lbs.

4) I am running in Competition mode when on track. I have also run in full nanny mode to try and keep the back end yaw from getting out of control on an early exit. This helps, but really limits the power induction on a clean corner.

5) Sport suspension was engaged. It is quite a bit better on keeping the body roll down, and also allows throttle tip in to be better modulated.

6) I am experiencing the back end stepping out under corner exit. The rear of the car is quite a bit more susceptible to hard throttle imputs, and really needs smooth brake releases under trail braking or straight line braking. (I am working hard on that).

7) I feel I need to apex late because this car seems to push through the corner exits. It causes a bit of a drift to the outside, even after unwinding the steering. The track I was on is fairly technical, and I wasn't familiar with it's turns. As my speeds went up and lap times came down, I began to fight the car more on early apex or higher speed exits.

What do you have covering the lights and mirrors?
I use painter's masking tape to cover those areas from track rubber and rocks. I don't have the 3M clear covering those areas. As it was, I picked up a paint tear near the rear wheel opening through the clear covering in that area. That is part of a track weekend, and I will have it fixed shortly.
