I've read the posts about tow hook placement and see where many people are putting theirs but I have two questions:

Most look like the front hook/loop has been welded or bolted to the bumper support and then a slot cut in the bumper to slide the loop through. That can't be strong enough, can it? Maybe they're welding/bolting to the frame where the bumper support connects to it...

Thinking about the back hook - I've read that there ~might~ be a threaded hole on the right rear, under the V's bumper skin (the regular CTS has a little hatch there). Before I decide to take my rear bumper off, does anyone know for sure that the hole is under there? If not, same question as the front: if not the bumper support, where to connect the tow hook?

thanks in advance

You can check with Yooper. I always liked his setup but was never sure how he did it. The bumper support is on cylinders no?

In the old Grand-Am cars they were "U"'s welded right where the crash bars were bolted to the supports...

I took the rear bumper off and there is a place for a screw-in type tow hook - it's right in the end of the support that comes out of the body (that the aluminum bumper support bolts to).

There are five 10mm bolts on each side of the bumper. You can get to three of them from underneath. The other two require removal of the tail lights. Then there are two plastic push pin type connectors at the back of each rear wheel well that need to be popped out. That will let you get to the one 7mm screw/bolt on each side that goes in from the topside, right at the back of your wheel well where the bumper meets the body.

Since you took off the rearmost trunk trim panel to get to the tail lights, you can look under the lower trunk lip and see the final four 10mm bolts attached to screws from the bumper that go through the body. Finally, there are three push-type plastic pins holding the very bottom of the bumper to the body. I just cut mine and will replace them.

Here's a look at everything before I put in the hook... I'm thinking this one from Pegasus Racing https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productdetails.asp?RecID=5178

Nice find!
Do you think if you plotted out the dimensions on the hole location you drilled by using bumper cover recesses below the hole, the rest of us could just measure and drill?

thanks shady! i still love the sound of the magnaflow

I'll post precise measurements and a tracing when I get the hook installed, just so I make sure I'm not giving out measurements that are off by a few mm

hey ctsvjeff - is there a threaded inlet at the end of the right front bumper support pillar like I show is at the right rear?

here are the measurements - disclaimer: I, personally, would not go by someone else's measurements for this. You may have saggy bumpers or something...

the measurements are using the topmost of the two embossed lines that run across the width of the bumper as a reference point. Looking at the back of the car, the hole is 3/4" above the top of the higher of the two lines. It is approx 4 13/16" from the rightmost end of that top line.

Any confirmation on the thread size?

No confirmation of the thread size yet - I've ordered a 5/8 hook, so we'll see. 12mm didn't fit. If 5/8 doesn't fit, the only other size I've seen is 18mm.
