I have a 97 STS, do these cars have torque converter lockup.

When I cruise on the highway in OverDrive, I never see the Rpm's drop when I'm not on the gas, as if the TQ was locking up

If it weren't locking up, you'd have a code and CEL. It may be too subtle for you to notice. Try touching the brake pedal while cruising, that will un-lock the TCC.

thanks katshot, u were absolutlely correct, talk about subtle, but when I tap the break the RPM drops on the highway

I could be wrong, but the TC should lock up before you get to highway speed. In the 96 SLS, it seems to lock up at about 41 MPH consistently. If you cruise just below the lockup speed, it gets a little bit of a shudder, and I always thought that was the primary signal the TC was about to lock up.

Am I crazy?
