This automatic is modestly modded but rips through the gears beautifully and hits 195 on a desert highway at night in Dubai (probably). Has anyone else tested the top end of a modded V yet? Anyone broken 200 yet?
So here it is: [YOUTUBE]

That's not in MPH. I'm sure that many guys here have got their cars over 195 (121mph).

that has to be in MPH seeing how it takes over 35seconds to achieve that speed when 120-121 happens in 12-13 seconds since that is about the 1/4 speed.

No, in the UAE speeds are in kph not mph, just like on the entire planet save the U.S., Britain and a few other scattered places.

The video is of crap quality but the needle seems to be really close to the 320 km/h range
our cars speedometer is maxed out at 330 km/h with each line representing 10 km/h.

Good point.

Maybe with a full trans tune and a few mods the car can reach 195mph in 42 seconds.

i am well aware of that however when you watch the video the speed they are running is well above 121 mph as indicated by the time and speed achieved during the duration of said video.

The Hennessy Viper with 1000hp/1200tq goes to 200 in low 20 second range. I guess is it possible that a 556hp/551tq V can get close to 200 in 42 seconds...with the transmission tuned of course.

Uh, did you watch the video? The driver just about pegs the speedo. Where does your V speedo stop? Mine stops at 200. So obviously this guy is doing 195 by any measure of speedo.

195 in 42 seconds? In an auto with 568rwhp...I believe it. I didnt see that he posted the rwhp. On youtube so many people try to pass of their kph videos off as mph.

You can obviously tune out the top end limit like this car has done. Why the skepticism? The auto is faster than the manual anyway. Witness how the manual almost loses the drag to the M5 on the Motor Trend drag video just posted. That race would never be close in an auto V

No skepticism here. I know Jesse can remove the speed limiter they put on automatics.
I believe that 175 limit in the automatic is actually reached in 5th? If the manual can go 192mph, a beefed up auto won't have any problems going beyond that. It looks lit it gets upto 240khp pretty quickly and it's pushing a little after that. Especially from 270 to 300 and beyond.
FYI: the speedo looks lile 30kph intervals: 0..30..60..90..120..150..180..210..240..270..300..330.
gets to almost 315kph.

Yes, reportedly artificially limited to protect the transmission's output shaft. It doesn't take much imagination to imagine what can happen at that speed while transmitting that much power when forces are building in proportion the square of the RPM...

Thats what i was thinking. I couldnt imagine what downshifting a gear at that speed in the auto might do....scary

The '09 CTS-V auto's are limited to 176 MPH. They had to be. At any speed above that one of the clutch baskets "flower pots" according to a CTS project engineer at GM I corresponded with. He said it was this clutch basket, and not the "output shaft" as reported in some magazines, that is the limiting factor. Apparently there is not enough room around that particularly clutch basket to allow it to be strengthened in any way to allow it spin faster. There is no difference in domestic and export auto transmissions.

BTW, the auto CTS-V's do achieve their top speed in 5th, not 6th, gear according to the same source. As long as the throttle is on the floor the auto remains in 5th at those kinds of velocities.

And even more interesting... as you know GM says the CTS-V with a 6-speed manual will go 191 MPH - But the same source tells me that 191 speed was achieved on a large test oval, so some lateral loading was involved. He thinks the true top end of the manual tranny V is closer to 195 or 196 on level ground in a straight line.

Just FYI...
