Hello everybody!
My next oncoming project is front engine mount. Got mount, got tools.. working on getting good weather..
As manual I'm going to use this thread http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-tech-tips/239484-seville-front-motor-mount-replacement-how.html even it is not about Deville, I'm pretty sure that kind of the stuff looks absolutely the same. This is the best step by step thread with pictures I found. Now I can understand what is going on.
I will appreciate all tips because I didn't start yet and want to make it same day w/o problems. Also my question, will I need 25" breaker bar or 18" will be fine? I know, cradle bolts high torqued.

Thanks everybody!

So, you want to say it is fine?

----------

that's what i was talking about when you initially contacted me via PM

the other mounts being worn will allow a good mount to flex more than it should
although the movement isn't really the concern here the clunk definitely is
Is it was your last message? Because the last message was blank. Just quoted text.

No, read my post again.

Just for comparison, I just tested my '01. My oldest hydraulic mount is about 2 years old, solid mount is original, just hit 85K. Brake torquing to between 2,000 and 2,500 RPM, my engine moves as much as yours does when shifting at idle. It twitches when changing gears at idle.
The amount yours moves when shifting at idle, is the same amount mine moves when torque braking to between 2,000 and 2,500 RPM. Mine barely moves when shifting at idle. In other words, yours moves a lot more.

Yes I meant that nobody would use solid steel mounts on luxury car. I need to replace some motor mounts on my 04 Deville. I would opt for rubber mounts in place of hydraulic to save some cash any day. If you want a really super smooth new car ride quality out of a high mileage older car you need to replace the struts, bushings and various other components like bearings and ball joints. My co worker made an old Honda ride like a new car. He spent way too much money. I went the easy route and just bought a brand new Honda fit. It rides like a new car because it is brand new. With my 04 Deville I really want to stick to the essential repairs. You will never get back money spent on ride quality related repairs.

Those lines are flexible , they will not break. Worn mounts will not cause too much trouble just extra vibration. A broken mount will cause problems but I suspect your mounts are just worn out not actually broken. You can spot a broken mount because the motor lifts up, way up under power. Most mounts are designed so the rubber can fail but there is still metal keeping the motor from moving too much.
