Timing Chain Failure

2006 cts with the 3.6 v-6, timing chain failed at 42000 miles. Car at the dealership 13 weeks waiting for a part!

Water pump failure at 43000 miles. Timing chain problems requiring the car in shop again at 45,500 miles!

Is this a problem for the cts? with just 3500 miles left on the warranty I m ready to dump the car I love.

We got a lot of problem with chain at our dealer and sometimes the car as only 15000 km. Water pump is another probleme on those car mine need to be replace like most of the cts at that mileage!
The entire timing chain kit is on sale right now on e-bay! I know this is a warrantee issue, but I thought I would let you know.
Ok, thats it. I am back to Imports.

GM hasn't changed SHIT! :(
My mechanic said he likes the 3.2 better in these cars. He said there are timing problems when the chain stretches and fatigues. On the 3.2 you have to replace the belt at 100kmile but the engine keeps its timing.
CTS with 155K and pumping about 1000 miles a week now, Took it for 100K service, they inspected the Timing belt and noproblems advice to keep going, I'm going to replace it at 200k, still runing the same serpenting belt no cracks at all.

I guess I got lucky with the car, using the 3.2L

Bye! Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out...unless you are into that sorta thing.
this worries me
I wouldnt worry until you start seeing this all the time. Ill be first the say GM has made a crucial error in the engineering of this engine, if its warranted. But this is so unusual, from what Ive heard, that its no worry to me.
Q !!
is this an Opel engine problem that GM has ""OR"" what ??
There is discussion here about 2 different engines.

The 3.2L (LA3) is an Opel engine. It was used in the CTS and a few Opels. It was a redesign of the 3.0L (L81) which was also used in Opels, the Catera, a few Saturns and a few Saabs.

The 3.6L (LY7) is a completely new engine. But it was also developed by the engineers from Opel along with Holden of Aussieland.

Honestly, Id be more pissed that it took 13 weeks to get a part. With service like that, whether its the dealerships fault, or GM's or the parts supplier, Id be ready to 'jump ship' and buy some other brand.

I personally can deal with a car breaking down. Mechanical things break from time to time. Thats life. But what I cant deal with is the car being under warranty and not being able to get a part.
I went through a similar situation last year when my dealership broke my sport grill, and then told me that GM no longer made the part.
IT was one of the few times Ive ever been livid at a dealership.
I have 2005 3.6L with 52k miles. Long story short, the timing chain snapped and led to complete destruction of the engine block. Will be getting short block replaced. Thank God for "goodwill" warranty coverage thru a friendly dealer. Otherwise, it would be $10,000 to fix. And, I'd no longer be a Caddy owner. I bought the car with 37k miles on it. No signs of prior mis-use. I've changed oil at dealer every 5k miles. I hope to feel confident in having a new engine in the car. We'll see.
this is about to make me replace the timing chains. How was your guys whine from the engine? mine is pretty loud, they already replaced the crank pulley and it had zero effect.

GM Claims it does no harm but I bet thats just to cover their damn asses. A stretched chain is a stretched chain.

Alot of us our out of warranty... so im not feeling to safe :)

I think the comment about the foreign car stuff...

Go over to a lexus board and they arent talking about engine failures... they are talking about sideskirts...

Im not saying they didnt have a sludge problem around 2000 and they never fail. Its just theres like 3-4 people having issues now? And thats a fairly small sampling on this board?
2004 SRX 63000 miles Wife driving down the road yesterday and the car totally shut down. You can hear it spinning but no cranking. Was told it was the timing chain and will cost at least $1000 and possibly $3000 if it bent the valves. We got this car 9 months ago and it's been one thing after another. We had to replace the spark plugs 5000 miles ago, the fuel filter was bent and it took 3 techs 2 hours to get it off, and the oil filter cap broke the first time I changed the oil. Try hunting down that part. All the techs said "How did that break". Maybe from the idiot who put it on way too tight. I think after this thing gets fixed it's gone. I don't know if we'll still buy a GM product or not. I try to support them but this car really has me pissed off. Have there been any recalls for this timing chain issue??
Could this cause the shuddering/ rpm fluctuation that the 3.6L seems to experience?

Do you think this could cause the rpm fluctuation? Im starting to read about both these issues more and more on different boards...

i dont think so, i get that same kind of slight flutter like somethings going in gear.

I think that is the crank angle sensor losing contact and the engine is like whoa.

I know of GM will tell us everything is perfectly fine and thats normal but we all know thats utter bs.

I am going to go over my car with a fine tooth comb in about a week. Ill check my timing chains, crank angle sensor, plugs, put in new rear diff oil etc etc.
My timing cahin om my 2007 CTS went the day I rolled 48,000 KMs on my car. The guy at the dealership told me that it was common on cadillacs and hummers for the timing chain to.
