On my 2004 Escalade I keep getting the "Tighten Gas Cap" alert, followed by my check engine light coming on. I have changed my gas cap twice but I keep getting the same problem. If I drive on the freeway for fifty miles or more, the alerts all clear themselves. Any ideas?

There's some sort of leak in the EVAP system. Probably in one of the charcoal canister purge, vacuum, or vapor collection lines.

Some Escalades have suffered from broken charcoal granule retainer screens, filling the vacuum and purge lines with charcoal dust. That trips EVAP codes and warnings.

You need an EVAP schematic for your vehicle year and model. Either the GM/Cadillac/Helm service manuals or the online versions at www.alldatadiy.com.
