I have a 93 eldorado touring coupe with the 4.6 liter northstar and recently had a friend install a new starter for me. Unfortunately, since he put it back together, my car has been idling excessively high, and I was wondering if this is because of the seal on the throttle body. I read in the maintenance manual that this must be replaced after taking the throttle body off due to the fact that it will swell and won't seal correctly. I was wondering if anybody knows if there is anything that we could have missed in putting the engine back together that would make it idle high or if it is just the o-ring needing to be replaced. Also if anyone knows where I could order a replacement o ring online it would be great because as of right now I am looking at having to buy one from a dealership.

I would not think an "O" ring could be very expensive, even from a dealer. Spray some break cleaner around the TB mount and listen for RPM increase to verify a bad seal. Another option is to listen around with a stethescope.

thanks for the fast reply, one other thing i forgot to mention is that the intake manifold gasket was a little bent when we re-installed it and this seems like it could be contributing to the problem. Would a shot gasket make it idle high?

I've been down this road....Disassembled the throttle body in order to check the fuel injectors. Re-assembled everything and the engine was idling a good 500+ rpm's then normal :banghead: ...After a brief examination I found the problem: I had mis-installed the male end of the throttle cable. Follow the throttle cable until it hooks into the throttle position sensor. If your 93' is similar to my 95' you will notice that there are numerous "holes" in which to place the plastic male end that connects to the throttle cable...Install the two-pronged male connector in the wrong set of "holes" and your idle will be off....Just need to find the right set...:)....Also I would definitely replace your TB gasket...As you said they expand after they are removed and must be replaced.
